Winners of #BornToChallenge Short Film Challenge by Arabian Automobiles Company and Smovies Announced

Winner donates AED5,000 prize to breast cancer research association with Arabian Automobiles matching his donation

Dubai, UAE, November 27, 2016: Arabian Automobiles Company, the flagship company of the AW Rostamani Group and the exclusive dealer for INFINITI in Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates, have announced the winners of its one-minute short film challenge to talented young filmmakers, around its all-new Q30 theme ‘Born To Challenge’ (#BornToChallenge). The competition was conducted in partnership with Smovies in support of the Emirate’s arts scene.

The winner of the Grand Prize was the film ‘Walking With You’ by Vasilis Biloumis, who generously donated his AED5,000 prize to the Breast Cancer Research Association in honour of the film’s theme. Salah Yamout, Director of Sales and Marketing of Arabian Automobiles Company, was moved by this generous donation and matched it with a donation of an additional AED5,000 to the association. The winning short film will also be screened across all VOX Cinemas in the UAE, Bahrain, and Lebanon for a full month.

A thoroughly creative selection of prizewinners included ‘As Always’ by John Haddad which achieved second place, ‘The Expected’ by Mohammed Sarfaraz Ali which gained third prize, with ‘Moving On’ by Justin Justiniano provided an additional prize for the best use of INFINITI Q30.

The winning film was shown at a Gala Premiere at the VOX Cinema in Mall of the Emirates, following selection from a jury. Members of the panel included Nathalie Garino from INFINITI of Arabian Automobiles Company, Emirati directors Majid Al Ansari, Khaled Al Mahmoud and Nujoom Al Ghanem, award-winning Emirati Actor Mansoor Al Feeli, and filmmaking instructors and veterans David Moore, Dahlia Mahmoud, Greg Unrau, Mohannad al Bakri, and Michelle Nickelson.

An excellent opportunity to demonstrate a flair for video camera or mobile phone filmmaking, the competition started on 18th September and ran for a month under the #BornToChallenge theme, which was open for interpretation in a number of ways, both personal and professional.

The Smovies is a short film creation platform that has been launched by BrandMoxie, a leading media group in the UAE who are involved in marketing, publishing and events. The platform is intended to provide an opportunity for emerging filmmakers, by offering recognition and exposure. New technologies are embraced by Smovies, which promote the film making capabilities of phones, tablets and other everyday communication terminals.
