Stop beating the heat and start beating the end of summer blues
Dubai, UAE – August 2018: With the summer season coming to its regrettable end, children across the city are sure to be trying out every activity under the sun, to make the most of the last vacation days. To avoid the dreaded back to school blues, there are many ways through which parents can carry that young summer joy well into the upcoming term, and ensure that their little ones have plenty to look forward to when lessons start up again.
“Getting readjusted to following a schedule may be challenging, but with the help of a supportive learning environment provided by schools and nurseries, as well as parents who have most certainly been swept off their feet keeping the kids entertained over the two month long break, getting ‘back to school’ can be as much of a breeze as the past summer has been,” explains Monica Valrani, CEO of Ladybird Nursery.
Readjusting to timings of a school routine is vital, as during holidays bedtimes tend to be ignored and children enjoy lazing their way into the day. Morning classes such as art and swimming can be taken on, which serve as both an exciting end to summer, as well as getting children into the habit of waking up and going to bed early. Such activities have the added benefit of being extended into the school term, bringing with it that lively summer feeling.
Another great way to boost excitement levels is to treat the little ones to new and ‘fun’ school supplies, that boost their excitement levels and get them enthusiastic to use their new stationery, bags and books. Learning supplies such as magnetic pin boards can also be picked up to help children stay organised throughout the upcoming term.
“There is a lot that can be done to ease the transition from holiday season into a new school term. Children tend to associate the idea of summer ending with the end of good times, but as long as it is made clear that this is not the case, children will find it easy to start the new term on a positive note,” Valrani adds.
A few more ‘winning’ tips that Valrani shares, to ensure the summer blues end as the school term begins, are:
- Make sure you end the summer on a high note, with a fun activity planned for the final weekend before school re-starts
- Spend some time looking back at the photos and momentos of the long summer holiday
- Plan an exciting outing for the near future, to give your little one something to look forward to during those long school days
- Get children involved the preparations – from getting uniforms and lunches ready, to packing suitcases and chatting through all the stories they plan on sharing with their friends when they return to school
