Dubai, United Arab Emirates (April 13, 2019) – Pupils from Repton School Dubaireturn to the World Finals for the Landrover 4 x 4 Schools Technology Challenge with a five-member team. Repton School Dubai will be the only school in the UAE representing the country at the World Finals, which will take place in The University of Warwick in Coventry, UKduring this week.
The ambition of the project is to raise awareness, interest and enthusiasm in engineering through the practical application of STEM subjects and Design & Technology. The challenge replicates a real-life work situation where individuals come together and make a conjoint decision to produce the best output, resolving a complex subject.
The challenge involves a teamworking together to design and build a radio-controlled four-wheel drive (4×4) vehicle to set specifications. The vehicle must successfully navigate and complete obstacles on an off-road test track which is just as demanding as a real off-road situation, emulating real life and perform as a full scale 4×4 vehicle would.
The team from Repton Dubai consisting of five pupils, from Year 11 and IB2, is currently working together to plan and design their four-wheel drive model while playing individual roles such asTeam Manager, Manufacturing Engineer, Graphics Designer and Design Engineer, Resource Manager.The team will be judged on various aspects including presentation, design profile, team uniformity and identity, as well as the engineering and functionality elements of the vehicle.
