As part of the Emirati-French Cultural dialogue and in tune with the Year of Tolerance, Alliance Française Abu Dhabi was proud to inaugurate for the first in United Arab Emirates, «Micro-Folie» in the capital, on April 25th at 4pm in its premises.

This event took place in the presence of our guests of honor, H.E. Dr. Zaki Nusseibeh, Minister of State in UAE, Mr. Sultan Al Hajji, President of Alliance Française Abu Dhabi, Mohamed Beldjoudi Director of Alliance Française Abu Dhabi, Sabine Sciortino, Director, Cultural and Cooperation Counsellor at the Embassy of France and the Institut Français of UAE, Nabil Bouhajra, Regional Director of TV5MONDE Maghreb-Orient and Cassandre Schinelli, Micro-Folie Project Manager in La Villette in Paris.

Inspired by the Folies of La Villette park in France and designed by the architect Bernard Tschumi, Micro-Folie is an innovative project and a real cultural platform adapted to local demands. It’s supported by the French Ministry of Culture and coordinated by La Villette.

The official opening brought together more than 50 people such as directors, artists or musicians. During the event, the project was presented.  Indeed, Micro-Folie takes the form of a digital museum that highlights a selection of more than 500 artworks from twelve prestigious French cultural institutions such as the Pompidou Center, the Versailles Castle, the Cité de la Musique – Philharmonie de Paris, the Avignon Festival , the Institute of the Arab World, the Louvre Museum, the Picasso National Museum, the Orsay Museum, the Quai Branly Museum – Jacques Chirac, the National Opera of Paris, the Rmn-Grand Palais, Universcience and other French operators.

During the inauguration, people discovered treasures covering many parts of the history of art, ranging from Antiquity to the most contemporary expression of creation, thanks to the digital museum. Visitors could whet their creativity through dedicated spaces: big screen, virtual reality, stage… Micro-Folie encourages the development of local and national artistic projects and allows students of schools, universities and Alliance Française to learn art history and French as a Foreign Language, while immersing themselves in an exciting cultural context. The youth will be invited to open up to the world to better understand it.

This event was also an opportunity to inaugurate our new Café TV5MONDE, in partnership with the Francophonie TV channel in order to share the French language, through multiple devices.

Alliance Française Abu Dhabi wanted to develop Micro-Folie in UAE in cooperation with the Embassy of France and the Institut Français and with the help of various partners such as Total and TV5MONDE. Micro-Folie could be supplemented by a “mobile” version to meet more audiences throughout the country with time.
