Abu Dhabi, 29thApril, 2019:Binta Fatima, a Nigerian nationalaged 35, had lost hope to bear children after having recurrent IVF failures from previous procedures done in Africa. However, when she got to know of Dr. Archana Ashtekar,Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology (with fellowship in Reproductive Medicine, Infertility and IVF)at Bareen International Hospital- MBZ City, she wasted no time and travelled to the UAE to seek medical treatment.Doctors at Bareen International Hospital diagnosed Binta with a rare and complicated medical case that is the leading cause of her recurrent IVF failures.
Dr. Archana diagnosed Bintawith female infertility due to multiple uterine fibroids, cysts on the right ovary and severe endometriosis and bilateral hydrosalpinges – a condition that occurs when the fallopian tube is blocked and filled with infective fluid near the ovary. She said, “Endometriosis is a condition where the inside layer of uterus grows outside. The most common sites of endometriosis are ovaries, uterosacral ligaments, and peritoneum.Binta had severe endometriosis andthe deeply embedded uterine fibroids had to beextracted before opting for the nextIVF cycle.Due to severe peritoneal adhesions, these fibroids were not accessible. The infective fluid in the fallopian tubescan become toxic for the transferred embryos during IVF, so both the uterine fibroids and hydrosalpinges had to be removed through a complex minimally invasive surgery,” added Dr. Archana.
The complicated laparoscopic medical operation was handled by Dr.Archanaand Dr. Sandesh Kade, Specialist – Obstetrics and Gynecology, specializing in laparoscopic surgeries at Bareen International Hospital. The surgery lasted for 4hours, applying complex techniques to remove the uterine fibroids, the infected fallopian tubes, and all endometriotic tissues.
Binta responded positively to the surgery and recovered extremely well. She was dischargedafter 4 days.“Her uterus is now ready for the next IVF cycle where she canlook forward to never experiencing another IVF failure again. She is scheduled to do her next IVF cycle after one month.”
“I felt so depressed when I could not conceive my own child, even through IVF. Running from one medical facility to another was taking a toll on me – physically, emotionally, and mentally. However, Bareen International Hospital has been a blessing. Dr. Archana and Dr. Sandesh have not only helped diagnose the problem, but have also treated the condition accurately. At each stage of my treatment, I was well-informed about the processes and procedures and the doctors along with the medical team at the hospital provided quality services every step of the way.”
