It is officially summer and people are getting their body ready for the season. For those with varicose veins, summer holidays can put a lot of pressure on them. The knotty, enlarged, and discolored veins caused by blood pooling in the legs are not only dictating their outfits but, even worse, are also affecting their self-confidence.
The good news is varicose veins, which occur when valves in the veins in the legs stop functioning properly, this can easily be treated as an outpatient depending on their size and the patient’s condition. The first line of treatment usually involves simple lifestyle changes and wearing compression stockings. Doctors, however, may recommend a medical procedure if it is causing the patient severe pain, skin problems, and blood clots.
Less invasive procedures are now available. A laser treatment, for instance, is used to treat and prevent their reoccurrence. The minimally invasive ultrasound-guided endovenous laser treatment, a technique that utilizes laser energy, is a popular method under this category. Besides laser treatment, radiofrequency closure is another less invasive medical process for the condition.
Patients with larger veins are likely to seek treatment methods like ligation, stripping, radiofrequency or endovenous laser treatment, all depending on the situation and the recommendation of the attending medical expert, while small to medium-sized varicose veins are treated with sclerotherapy, external laser treatment, or a minor surgery called microphlebectomy.
After the procedure, it is normal for doctors to allow their patients to go home. They can easily go back to their normal routines. It is, however, advised that they refrain from driving immediately after the procedure. Additionally, wearing stockings for two weeks or more is recommended, while a certain special bath routine has to be followed for a certain period of time.
Like any other medical procedure, consulting your doctor is the first step to know the right treatment for your condition. Factors such as age, overall health, symptoms, and the condition of the varicose veins play a critical role in deciding the most appropriate and best treatment for your case. For proper treatment doctor may also ask about one’s expectations and goals to align the treatment accordingly.
Varicose veins should not hold one down. Having blemish-free legs this season is easily accessible and the patient can feel great again in just a matter of hours. Learning how to address your varicose vein issues during this season reflects your readiness to welcome summer. Consult your doctor to start your journey towards a varicose vein-free life.
