Dubai, UAE, 28th July, 2019:Pirelli, the world-leading tyre manufacturer and a global symbol of Italian industrial excellence, has praised drivers in Dubai fortaking a proactive approach to road safety this summer as temperatures soar across the UAE’s highways, increasing the risk of wear and tear to vehicles and their tyres.

With hot weather putting increased strain ontyrePSI (Pounds per Square Inch) – deflated or over-inflated pressure affectsreliability, performance and ultimately safety – maintenance in the summer takes on extra importance.

According to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Interior (MoI), 785 accidents were recorded across the country last year from the result of  worn-out tyres, due to lack of regular maintenance or overloading of vehicles. Committed to offering the best driver experience, Pirelli opened its flagship P ZERO™ World store on Hessa Street in Dubai in January of this year. The first such store in the Middle East and only the fourth in the world, following flagship stores in automotive heartlands of Los Angeles, Munich, Monte Carlo, aimed at providing world-class customer service and enhancing road safety knowledge.

The premium tyre leader has recorded its best month-on-month footfall figures to date, with more than1500 motorists visiting the Hessa Street store from the start of its operation in January through June to check or change their tyres, an increase Pirelli attributes to drivers paying close attention to vehicle safety as the temperatures increase.

“Driver and road safety is our top priority. As the market leader in the premium tyre sector, Pirelli strives to deliver the best driver experience, from performance and reliability to raising awareness of the importance of tyre maintenance,” said Alberico Avogadro, Managing Director, Pirelli Middle East.

“With the wheels the only part of the car touching the road surface, regular checks are important all year round. However, additional factors in playduring summer amplify the need to focus ontyre maintenance now. It’s extremely pleasing to see that our safety messages are resonating, and our customers are recognising the need to be extra vigilant on good tyre health.”

With the hot summer months impacting tyre health, Pirelli has the following advice for drivers:

  • Check PSI on all four tyres at least twice a month when wheels are cold – ie, driven less than 3km before checking
  • Upon returning from vacation, check PSI before embarking on first long drive
  • Avoid driving at too low pressure
  • Don’t over-inflate to compensate for anticipated loss of pressure
  • Use correct tyrepattern and dimension for model of car
  • Regularly check the spare tyre for pressure and damage often

Opened in January, the Hessa Street branch of P ZERO™ Worldcaters to all driver needs and is open from 09:00 am, to 9:00 pm, Saturday to Thursday.
