The Art of Thai Culinary 2019: Award Day

On 14 August 2019, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Dubai organized the “The Art of Thai Culinary 2019: Award Day” at Pai Thai restaurant, Dubai, to celebrate the winning Thai chefs who participated in the cooking competition on “Lon Goong” (prawns in coconut milk sauce) and “Tab Tim Grob” (water chestnuts in sweetened coconut milk) held on 30 June 2019 at the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management (EAHM), Dubai. There were 12 Thai chefs from 11 Thai restaurants in Dubai joined in the competition this year, namely Pai Thai, Bambooda, Benjarong, Little Bangkok, Spicy & Ginger, Mango Tree Thai Bistro, Mekong, Papaya Salad,  the Thai Kitchen, the Royal Buddha, and Miss Tess

In his opening remarks, H.E. Mr. Chairat Sirivat, Consul-General of Thailand to Dubai, stressed the importance of “the Art of Thai Culinary 2019” project as a means to promote the Thai government’s policy of “Thailand: Kitchen of The World.” The project aims at making Thai food, cooked by professional Thai chefs, and its unique and authentic taste better known among the UAE residents.

The winning chefs and their restaurants were awarded the certificates of excellence and the trophies, respectively, and the participating chefs were awarded certificates of appreciation by H.E. Mr. Waravuth Pouapinya, Ambassador of Thailand to the UAE, Mr. Chairat Sirivat, Consul-General of Thailand to Dubai, and the Heads of Team Thailand offices; Tourism Authority of Thailand, Dubai and the Middle East office, Thai Airways International, PCL, Dubai office, and the Thai Trade Center, Dubai.

During the event, the winning chefs of “Lon Goong” and “Tab Tim Grob” performed cooking demonstrations to the participants including the ASEAN Consul-Generals, Heads and representatives of Team Thailand offices, representatives of the Thai Professional Culinary Club in Dubai, food expert from the EAHM, Thai food importers, media, and restauranteurs. In addition, the restaurants of the winners of each menu will also be reviewed by the renowned food bloggers and media by courtesy of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Dubai and the Middle East office.
