Dubai, UAE, 31 July 2019: Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) donated a large number of its used technological equipment and resources to Dubai Municipality’s Digital Devices Refurbishment Centre to be revamped and reused. This initiative is part of a project where devices reconditioned by Dubai Municipality are delivered to the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Foundation (MBRHC) to be donated to needful educational, social, and charity institutions and authorities inside and outside the UAE.
This initiative will also help disperse a culture of giving, in line with the UAE’s efforts to promote humanitarian work and enhance community participation. It also works towards achieving environmental sustainability through Dubai Culture’s support of Dubai Municipality’s efforts to preserve the environment by reducing the adverse effects of the improper disposal of computers and their accessories.
Mohamed Al Hammadi, Director of Information Technology at Dubai Culture, said: “The digital devices refurbishment project holds great significance, especially as such partnerships with other government entities enable us to encourage charity work among institutions and community members. Through this project, we are able to establish giving as a culture and lifestyle as well as provide more chances to spread technological knowledge in schools, universities, and the community through providing devices for the needful in the UAE and overseas.”
Al Hammadi added: “Reconditioning and revamping digital devices contributes to achieving sustainable development in Dubai. Supported by our sense of collective responsibility to preserving the local environment, Dubai has always been a pioneer in launching initiatives towards achieving environmental sustainability. Our collaboration with Dubai Municipality and MBRHC on this project enables us to contribute to minimizing environmental risks through recycling, utilizing, and reusing resources.”
Dubai Culture aims to enhance Dubai’s cultural scene and draw attention to the UAE’s rich heritage. The Authority’s mandate is to build bridges of constructive dialogue between different civilisations and cultures to enhance Dubai’s position as a creative and sustainable global city for culture, heritage, arts, and literature, with the aim to empower these sectors by developing creative and innovative projects and initiatives locally, regionally, and globally.
