Dubai,Tuesday 11November:adidas Football is thrilled to announce the signing of Syria and Al Ahli striker, Omar Al Somah, building on adidas’ unrivalled portfolio of football talent across the Middle East.
An icon of Syrian football, Al Somah joins the likes of BafetimbiGomis, Abdulfattah Al Assiri, Alvaro Negredo and Khalfan Mubarak in adidas’ stable and will pull on boots from the new Encryption pack this week as Syria face China in their world cup qualifier in the UAE.
“I have a great history with adidas; winning three titles and a golden boot twice whilst wearing adidas boots.” said Al Somah. “Hopefully I can replicate that success again, score more goals and win more titles. It all starts this Thursday versus China, where I hope to help the Syrian national team continue our unbeaten run in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.”
The 30-year-old hit the headlines following his heroics for the Syrian national team in 2017.Scoring two goals in the FIFA World Cup 2018 Qualifiers vs Australia, Al Somah was inches away from writing his name into football history and guiding Syria to their first ever FIFA World Cup. His pin-point finishing has also seen him light up the Saudi Pro League, where he has an astonishing record of 108 goals in 113 matches.
