Arabia CSR Network conducts the 55th GRI Standards Training virtually 11th – 13th October, 2020
The Arabia CSR Network has been conducting trainings on Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards virtually since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Developed and released by the Global Sustainability Standards Board (GSSB), these are the leading and the most highly accepted standards for sustainability reporting worldwide.
In 2011, the Network boarded the GRI platform as the 1st certified training partner in the Arab world to offer the training modules on sustainability reporting. It also became the first organisation to deliver the GRI trainings in the Arabic language, where the modules have been prepared and translated in house by the Network and certified by GRI. Through these extensive trainings delivered by the ACSRN, there are over 101 Sustainability Reports that have been published by the participating companies so far in the MENA Region.
The Network conducted yet another virtual training on 11th – 13th October 2020, which brought the total number to 55 sessions so far. These standards are critical tools for companies to report on their sustainability impacts in a consistent and credible way. This enhances global comparability, transparency and accountability that channelise tangible contribution in the achievement of UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The Standards also help organisations to understand and disclose their impacts in a way that meets the needs of multiple stakeholders. In addition to reporting companies, the Standards are highly relevant to many other groups, including investors, policymakers, capital markets, and civil society.
Through a series of lectures, discussions, exercises and case studies in the 3-days training, the Network has been engaging with the entities and individuals from various sectors across the Arab Region. Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) was one of the chief organisations that has benefitted from this certified training recently.
Setting the foundation of the training, Mrs. Al Mar’ashi, President and CEO of ACSRN gave a detailed presentation on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. She highlighted the key updates from the SDGs 2020 Report to highlight the progress as well as challenges that the world has faced since the adoption of the 17 SDGs in the year 2015. She specifically stressed on the impacts posed by the pandemic and stated, “The need and urgency to align the core and operational activities has become predominant for an inclusive and sustainable development moving forward.”
The training registered 9 participants who actively engaged in discussions and case studies of CSR and sustainability to enhance their knowledge and skills on objectives, targets, strategies, policies and performance indicators. The training helped the participants to identify the gaps and explore new opportunities to scale up their approach towards the sustainable activities. On the completion of the training, all the participants were also issued certificates from GRI Headquarters in Netherlands.
The Network will continue to conduct the virtual trainings through the last quarter of 2020 to reach maximum entities in the Region on special course packages. It has lined-up more online trainings on GRI Standards, Materiality Mapping, CSR Strategy and Leadership, and CSR Advanced Training.
