Young photographers improve skills, knowledge, and composition

 at ‘Let’s Have FUNN’ workshop

Budding photography enthusiasts learnt how to get creative with their cameras at an online workashop led by Emirati photographer, Amna Hamad bin Khalaf, on Thursday, the fourth day of ‘Let’s Have FUNN’, a first-of-its-kind virtual media arts event organised by FUNN, a Sharjah-based entity dedicated to promoting and supporting media arts learning among children and youth in the UAE.

From mood to lighting and message, every element of the photo tells a story, said the artist, at the session titled, ‘Basics of Photography’, held via Zoom.

Advising her young audience to explore different subject matter to identify their preferred genre, she said that understanding the working of a camera and its technical elements such as aperture, shutter speed, pixels, sensor, colour balance, and lighting, would help in getting the best possible results.

A photograph’s focal point, added Amna, is a key element that reflects the photographer’s unique perspective and captures the viewer’s attention. Mastering the art of effective backgrounds can have a major impact on the composition of a photo and improve its meaning and depth, she added.

Explaining the primary differences various types of cameras, she advised participants to understand the specifications and features of each before making their purchase.

The 5-day ‘Let’s have FUNN’ sessions, featuring a series of interactive and educational workshops and film screening sessions for children and youth, and led by renowned artists and filmmakers, concludes today (Friday).
