Successful entrepreneurs, international speakers, and bestselling authors outline ways to approach leadership and resilience at Sharjah Entrepreneurship Festival 2020
What does it take to be a superhuman at the workplace?
Sharing the knowledge he has gained from thought leaders, experts and entrepreneurs as the host of the podcast series Superhumans at Work, international speaker Jason Campbell highlighted four ways to rewrite the rules of performance at work yesterday (December 9) at the ongoing Sharjah Entrepreneurship Festival (SEF) 2020, organised by Sharjah Entrepreneurship Center (Sheraa).
“If you want to be a good leader, you need to have great self-leadership,” he asserted at the opening session titled, How to Unleash Your Inner Superhuman at Work, noting that the bossy management style is quickly dying out. Campbell, who was also the host of the sessions yesterday, urged the audience to practice leadership from a young age. “If you make a plan, follow the plan. This sets the foundation of how you build trust and consistency.”
Communication is another powerful skill to develop and nurturing it in an effective way “is going to open all doors for you,” he added. Citing productivity as the third tenet, he called on entrepreneurs to document, standardize and optimize all processes to boost efficiency.
“Attitude is really what makes the difference. It is what changes you from being a B-player to an A-player,” opined Campbell, emphasizing the importance of a growth mindset. By combining these four skills together, “you can be a superhuman who can pivot, change and adapt better than anybody else.”
Vishen Lakhiani – entrepreneur, New York Times bestselling author, and Founder of the leading personal growth platform Mindvalley – also led a keynote session where he discussed how entrepreneurs will thrive by tapping into “altered states of mind.” Creative visualization and nurturing an intuitive mindset, emphasized Lakhiani, are key to awakening one’s mind to its fullest potential and enables each person to perform, evolve, and live at their peak.
In the third session, ‘Meditation for Resilience’, international speaker and author Emily Fletcher, Founder of Ziva Meditation, discussed how resilience – “the ability to handle adverse experiences or the ability to adapt to challenging circumstances” – was key to managing stress. “Don’t wish that it were easier; make yourself stronger. Instead of blaming and being angry at the circumstances, fill your reservoirs with adaptative energy,” she advised.
Keith Ferrazzi, bestselling author, and Chairman and Founder of Ferrazzi Greenlight, discussed the fundamental principles of leadership and co-elevation in the final session titled ‘Leading without Authority in the New Era’. Describing how the work of a true leader is to promote a shared sense of responsibility among their teams, especially in the world of virtual work, he emphasized the need for entrepreneurs to dismiss the principles of authority to radically adapt and transform team performance and to deliver new levels of growth.
The new leadership model in the remote working world hinges on four key factors – Foresight, Agility, Inclusion, and Resilience, said Ferrazzi, adding that leaders need to build teams that are more high-performing, transformative, and innovative. Leaders must also commit to co-creation, and challenge each other to go higher.
“Co-elevation is the ticket to greater success and greater growth,” he said, adding that peer-to-peer support allows people to journey together, and is vital for the transformation of any organisation.
