Yara: Singing to children at Expo 2020 Dubai is ‘double the happiness’

DUBAI, 20 November 2021 – Lebanese singer Yara, UNICEF Regional Ambassador for the Middle East and North Africa, performed in a flagship concert hosted by Expo 2020 Dubai to celebrate World Children’s Day and debuted ‘We Want to Live’, a new song about children.

Coming out of the pandemic, what does it mean to you to be a UNICEF ambassador on World Children’s Day?

I thank God that life is gradually returning to normal after all the difficulties we went through last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

How does it feel to be at Expo 2020 Dubai, the largest international event in the region?

From the moment I entered Expo 2020 Dubai, I was impressed by everything I saw around me. I really felt proud, and I would like to pay a big tribute to the UAE, which embraces the whole world, and to every member of the Expo team. My excitement and happiness were doubled because I am here on this very special day, being the day of the children who mean the world to me.يارا: فرحتي مضاعفة لأنني أغني للطفل في مكان استثنائي مثل إكسبو 2020 دبي

Tell us about your new song, ‘We Want to Live’.

The new song is a collaboration with UNICEF, written and composed by Tarek Abou Joude, and arranged by Abbas Al Sabah. It is a message from the children of the world, helping them to live the life they deserve by providing all that they need. We hope that the Arab region will enjoy peace, so that children can live in peace, and be able to plan for tomorrow and achieve the successes they aspire to. In the end, they are our children, they are our future.

What other projects do you have planned with UNICEF?

Recently, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we were not able to expand our activities, and actually today was our first collaboration together. Being here gave me an opportunity to get to know every member of the UNICEF team, and we will certainly have several projects to work on, as well as other songs.
