HE Sheikh Nahayan calls for collaborative research into economic effects of tolerance

DUBAI, 22 November 2021 – Tolerant societies are always the most innovative and economically-prosperous and more research is needed into measuring the economic benefits of tolerance, His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence and Commissioner General of Expo 2020 Dubai said on Monday.

Speaking at the latest in a monthly leadership series organised by the Asian Business Leadership Forum (ABLF), held at the Dubai Cares Pavilion at Expo 2020, HE Sheikh Nahayan delivered the keynote speech.

HE Sheikh Nahayan said: “In the UAE, we firmly believe that tolerance is not only a moral virtue but an economic one as well. At the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence, we are asking the question of how the economic effects of tolerance can be measured. We think this whole area is ripe for rigorous economic and business analysis. At ABLF, you are well placed to help support research into the relationship between business and tolerance.”

The session included a panel discussion on enhancing inclusivity in education and society through the effective use of technology, featuring His Excellency Dr Tariq Al Gurg, CEO and Vice Chairman, Dubai Cares; HE Dr Dena Assaf, UN Resident Coordinator and Deputy Commissioner-General of the UN at Expo 2020 Dubai; and Majid Al Usaimi, UNICEF National Ambassador and President, Asian Paralympic Committee.
