DUBAI, 23 November 2021 – Expo 2020 Dubai’s programming for the Women’s Pavilion in collaboration with Cartier is presenting an extraordinary line-up of women presidents, prime ministers and gender advocates across a wide-ranging series of events that will drive progress on gender equality and women’s empowerment (GEWE).
Reinforcing the pavilion’s manifesto: when women thrive, humanity thrives, the Women’s Pavilion will host more than 170 events across four different tracks, that seek to mainstream GEWE, showcase solutions for a gender-equal future and highlight the essential role women must play for society to continue to advance.
Her Excellency Shamsa Saleh, Secretary-General of the UAE Gender Balance Council, said: “The initiative provides an exceptional opportunity to exchange experiences, visions and ideas to share with Expo 2020 visitors. The UAE, through a host of diverse initiatives, is working to shed light on gender balance and regards it as one of the most pressing subjects through which prosperity and sustainable development can be achieved worldwide.”
Her Excellency added: “Under the leadership of Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed, the UAE Gender Balance Council aims to share the efforts and achievements of the UAE in this field with the international community through dialogues and the exchange of visions and ideas throughout the course the event. The UAE Gender Balance Council and Expo 2020 are working together to raise awareness on the subject and share the UAE’s success in supporting women and their achievements. The council is committed to build global partnerships that contribute to gender equality in line with short and long-term strategies.”
Hind Alowais, Senior Vice President, Participant Management, Expo 2020 Dubai, said: “Expo 2020 aims to enable action toward a prosperous future for both people and planet, and women must be full and equal participants in all segments of society in order for that vision to be realised. Complementing the content of the Women’s Pavilion, our programming will allow visitors to engage with and learn from leaders who have been catalysts for change in gender equality. Creating a dynamic environment with thought-provoking dialogue, we will inspire audiences from all walks of life to be part of the global movement on gender equality and women’s empowerment, and in turn, to do their part in delivering a better tomorrow for all.”
Visions and Journeys welcomes trail-blazing leaders to the stage to share their visions, strategies, and policies for a gender-equal future while providing insights into their personal journeys. Speakers include Their Excellencies Zuzana Čaputová, President of Slovakia; Ana Brnabić, Prime Minister of Serbia; Epsy Campbell Barr, First Vice President of Costa Rica; Maryam Yalwaji Katagum, Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Nigeria; and Hind Al-Zahid, Deputy Minister of Women’s Empowerment, Saudi Arabia. The series also hosts speakers from non-government organisations, including Phumzile Mlambo Ngcuka, Founder, Mlambo Foundation and Former Executive Director, UN Women.
The Women’s World Majlis, which was conceived in partnership with the mega-event’s own World Majlis, focuses on the role of women in sustainable development. As part of Expo 2020’s Programme for People and Planet, the series tackles Theme Week topics through a gender lens. Discussions include ‘Tolerance and Inclusivity as Driver for Women’s rights and equality’, ‘132 Million Girls: Tackling Gender Disparities in Access to Education’; ‘All Aboard? Not Yet: Vulnerabilities of Women in Mobility’; and ‘From Farmer to Boss Lady: Developing a Gender-Equitable Agricultural Sector’.
A historical and cultural series held in partnership with the Louvre Abu Dhabi research programme, Women in Arabia and Islam is inspired by museum artworks celebrating the roles of Arab and Muslim women, and their contributions to the advancement of societies in the past and present. The series spotlights women pioneers in culture, education, health and wellness, sustainable development, and more.
Co-curated with cross-industry stakeholders, Outlier addresses intersectional issues not commonly addressed in the existing frameworks of the GEWE agenda with events spanning trade, science, heritage and leadership.
The Women’s Pavilion in collaboration with Cartier will host its flagship event for International Women’s Day 2022 under the leadership of Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director General, Expo 2020 Dubai.
The forum on 8 March 2022 will welcome critical stakeholders in the gender space under its theme, “Creating New Perspectives”, shining a light on women’s leadership by tackling the issue of harmful stereotypes and negative social norms that have held women from reaching their full potential in various sectors. Going beyond the existing rhetoric of quotas and capacity-building measures traditionally adopted by institutions, the event will examine and unpack the invisible barriers women face, and generate conversations to overcome them.

دبي، 23 نوفمبر 2021: يقدم برنامج فعاليات إكسبو 2020 دبي لجناح المرأة، بالتعاون مع كارتييه، مجموعة واسعة من الفعاليات التي تدفع عجلة التقدم على مستوى المساواة بين الجنسين وتمكين المرأة، بمشاركة رئيسات دول، ورئيسات وزراء، وعدد من دعاة المساواة بين الجنسين.
ويستضيف جناح المرأة، تأكيداً لمبدئه “تزدهر البشرية بازدهار المرأة”، أكثر من 170 فعالية ضمن أربعة مسارات مختلفة، تسعى إلى تعميم المساواة بين الجنسين وتمكين المرأة، واستعراض حلول لمستقبل تسوده المساواة بين الجنسين، وإلقاء الضوء على الدور الأساسي الذي يتعين على النساء تأديته حتى يواصل المجتمع تقدمه.
تقول سعادة شمسة صالح، الأمينة العامة لمجلس الإمارات للتوازن بين الجنسين: “تجلب هذه المبادرة فرصا هائلة لتبادل الخبرات والرؤى والأفكار، ومشاركتها مع زوار إكسبو 2020 دبي، حيث تعمل دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، عبر استضافة مجموعة منوعة من المبادرات، على تسليط الضوء على أهمية تحقيق التوازن بين الجنسين، واعتباره واحدا من المواضيع الأكثر إلحاحا، التي يجب مناقشتها للتمكن من تحقيق الرفاهية والتطور المستدام على مستوى العالم أجمع”.
وأضافت: “بقيادة حرم سمو الشيخ منصور بن زايد آل نهيان، نائب رئيس مجلس الوزراء وزير شؤون الرئاسة، سمو الشيخة منال بنت محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم، رئيسة مجلس الإمارات للتوازن بين الجنسين، يسعى المجلس لمشاركة جهود وإنجازات دولة الإمارات في هذا المجال مع المجتمع العالمي، وذلك عبر إثارة النقاشات وتبادل الرؤى والأفكار خلال فترة انعقاد الحدث الدولي، حيث يعمل المجلس بالتعاون مع إكسبو 2020 على زيادة الوعي حول هذه القضية، والتعريف بالنجاح الذي حققته في دعم المرأة وإنجازاتها المحققة، كما يلتزم ببناء الشراكات الدولية، للتمكن من المساهمة في ردم الفجوة بين الجنسين وتحقيق المساواة وذلك بالتماشي مع الاستراتيجيات القصيرة والطويلة الأجل”.
وقالت هند العويس، نائب رئيس أول، إدارة شؤون المشاركين الدوليين في إكسبو 2020 دبي: “يهدف الحدث الدولي إلى تمكين العمل نحو مستقبل مزدهر للإنسان وكوكب الأرض على حد سواء، وعلى المرأة أن تحظى بمشاركة كاملة ومتساوية في جميع قطاعات المجتمع من أجل تحقيق هذه الرؤية. يكمّل برنامج فعالياتنا محتوى جناح المرأة، ويتيح للزوار التفاعل مع قادة حفزوا التغيير على مستوى المساواة بين الجنسين والتعلّم منهم. وعبر إنشاء بيئة نشطة مع حوار يحث على التفكير، نلهم الجماهير من جميع مناحي الحياة ليكونوا جزءا من الحركة العالمية بشأن المساواة بين الجنسين وتمكين المرأة، وبالتالي، ليؤدوا دورهم في صنع غدٍ أفضل للجميع”.
رؤى ومسيرات
وترحّب فعالية “رؤى ومسيرات” بقادة على المنصة لمشاركة رؤاهم، واستراتيجياتهم، وسياساتهم من أجل مستقبل تسوده المساواة بين الجنسين، مع تقديم لمحات عن مسيرتهم الشخصية. ومن المتحدثين فخامة سوزانا كابوتوفا، رئيسة جمهورية سلوفاكيا؛ ومعالي آنا برنابيتش، رئيسة وزراء صربيا؛ ومعالي إبسي كامبل بار، النائب الأول لرئيس جمهورية كوستاريكا؛ ومعالي مريم يالواجي كاتاغوم، وزيرة الدولة للصناعة والتجارة والاستثمار في نيجيريا؛ وسعادة هند بنت خالد الزاهد، وكيلة وزير الموارد البشرية والتنمية الاجتماعية لتمكين المرأة في المملكة العربية السعودية. وتستضيف السلسلة أيضا متحدثين من منظمات غير حكومية، بما في ذلك فومزيلي ملامبو-نكوكا، مؤسس مؤسسة “ملامبو”، والمديرة التنفيذية السابقة لهيئة الأمم المتحدة للمرأة.
دور المرأة في التنمية
ويركز المجلس العالمي للمرأة الذي عقد بالشراكة مع مبادرة المجلس العالمي بهذا الحدث الدولي الضخم على دور المرأة في التنمية المستدامة ضمن فعاليات برنامج الإنسان وكوكب الأرض من إكسبو 2020. حيث يتناول مجموعة من موضوعات أسابيع الموضوعات من منظور النوع الاجتماعي. وتشتمل المناقشات على الموضوعات التالية؛ “التسامح والشمولية دافعا لتعزيز حقوق المرأة والمساواة بين الجنسين”، و “132 مليون فتاة: معالجة التفاوت بين الجنسين في تلقي التعليم”، و”هل الجميع جاهز للانطلاق؟ ليس بعد.. المخاطر التي تتعرض لها المرأة عند التنقل”، و”من مزارعة إلى سيدة مجتمع: تعزيز المساواة بين الرجل والمرأة في القطاع الزراعي”.
وتنطلق السلسلة التاريخية والثقافية المنعقدة بالشراكة مع برنامج أبحاث متحف اللوفر أبوظبي؛ “سلسلة المرأة في شبه الجزيرة العربية والإسلام” التي تستقي إلهامها من الأعمال الفنية بمتحف اللوفر، وتحتفل بدور نساء العرب والمسلمات ومساهماتهن في النهوض بالمجتمعات في الماضي والحاضر، كما تسلط الضوء على الرائدات في مجالات الثقافة والتعليم والصحة والعافية والتنمية المستدامة وغيرها.
خارج الصندوق
وبتنسيق مشترك مع الجهات المعنية في قطاعات متعددة، تتناول سلسلة “أوتلاير” قضايا متعددة الجوانب لا يجري تناولها عادة في الأُطر الحالية لجدول أعمال المساواة بين الجنسين وتمكين المرأة، وهي تعتبر مناقشات (خارج الصندوق) لأهميتها وتأثيرها، مع تنظيم فعاليات تشمل موضوعات التجارة، والعلوم، والتراث، والقيادة.
ويستضيف جناح المرأة في إكسبو 2020 بالتعاون مع كارتييه فعاليته الرئيسة خلال اليوم الدولي للمرأة 2022 تحت قيادة معالي ريم الهاشمي، وزيرة الدولة لشؤون التعاون الدولي، المدير العام لإكسبو 2020 دبي.
ويرحب المنتدى المُنعقد يوم 8 مارس 2022 بجهات مهمة معنية في مجال المساواة بين الجنسين تحت شعار “صنع انطباعات جديدة”، حيث يسلط الضوء على قيادة المرأة، عبر معالجة موضوع الصور النمطية المُسيئة، والأعراف الاجتماعية السلبية التي تحول دون وصول النساء إلى كامل إمكاناتهن في قطاعات متنوعة. وبعيدا عن الحديث الحالي بشأن الحصص وتدابير بناء القدرات التي تتبناها المؤسسات عادة، تبحث الفعالية العوائق غير المرئية التي تواجهها النساء، وتكشفها، ما تنتج نقاشات واسعة ومهمة لتجاوزها.{:}
