Expo 2020 Dubai salutes the UAE’s martyrs

DUBAI, 30 November 2021 – Flags flew at half-mast and a minute of silence was observed across the entire Expo 2020 Dubai site to mark Commemoration Day, in recognition of the sacrifice of the UAE’s civil and military martyrs.

Expo 2020’s Commemoration Day activities were led by His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence and Commissioner General of Expo 2020 Dubai, Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director General, Expo 2020 Dubai and Her Excellency Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, UAE Minister of Culture and Youth. Following the minute of silent prayer for the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for their country, the UAE flag was raised and the national anthem played.

Commemoration Day is a national holiday and occasion to celebrate and express pride in the UAE’s martyrs, and to recognise their contribution in ensuring the nation’s citizens and residents live with security, stability and happiness
