DUBAI, 10 December 2021 – Expo 2020 Dubai visitors can discover how storytelling is at the heart of human development, by embarking on the ‘Power of Stories’ journey – a fascinating trail that shows how stories, whether in visual, oral or written form, have been handed down through generations in different parts of the world.
The Power of Stories journey aligns with the spirit of Knowledge and Learning Week, which takes place from 12-18 December under the theme ‘How do we harness and challenge our knowledge today to prepare for the future?’ and explores how the human predisposition to tell and to listen to stories lies at the root of civilisation.
In the digital age where techniques have changed but the storytelling method prevails as a key method of knowledge transfer, the journey looks at the storytelling traditions of countries including Angola, Australia, Syria, Yemen, Cote d’Ivoire, Italy and Mali, demonstrating how stories have the potential to build connections across time and geography.
Visitors can transport themselves to Angola to discover the ancient art of Sona geometry, which uses drawings to narrate stories. Incorporating input from both adults and children, the Angola Pavilion provides a great opportunity to learn about the country’s traditions that have the potential to offer solutions to modern-day challenges.
In the calm and serene environs of the Yemen Pavilion, visitors can experience the infinite power of knowledge from a country that was the seat of one of the oldest global civilisations and widely considered the cradle of Arab civilisation, as they learn how storytelling was used to inform, educate and entertain for centuries.
Visitors can also get an idea of the rich Arabic traditions of storytelling by visiting the Syria Pavilion. A country of many firsts, such as theme home of the first crop and the first alphabet, Syria boasts a strong tradition of wonderful stories. The Syria Pavilion juxtaposes the country’s history and civilisation alongside its vision for a bright future through literature, music and the arts.
Sameen – Story of our Culture is an open-air pavilion that takes visitors on a journey through time, from the past to the future, through live and interactive moments that reveal an authentic way to interact with the Emirates. Here, visitors can enter the traditional homes of the mountains, desert and coast; and understand how tradition is inevitably tied to the future. The storytelling marvels from Down Under can be witnessed at the Australia Pavilion, where visitors are welcomed with tales using ancient representations of native knowledge. Visitors are introduced to the key characters and themes of the pavilion using interactive content.
At the Italy Pavilion, visitors can head to the Short Stories space, an area dedicated to temporary exhibitions on the standards of Italian expertise and know-how, and get a better understanding of how storytelling influenced Italy’s progress in diverse fields.

وتتماشى رحلة “قُدرة القصص” مع جوهر أسبوع المعرفة والتعلُّم، المقام في الفترة من 12 إلى 18 ديسمبر تحت عنوان “كيف نسخّر معرفتنا اليوم ونعززها للتهيّؤ للمستقبل؟” وتُبين الرحلة أن استعداد الإنسان وقابليته لسرد القصة والاستماع أمر متجذر في الحضارات.
أما في عصرنا الرقمي، حيث تباينت سُبُل التقنية في حين سادت طريقة سرد القصص بوصفها أداة رئيسية لتناقل المعرفة، تبحث الرحلة في تقاليد سرد القصة في بعض البلدان، منها أنغولا، وأستراليا، وسوريا، واليمن، وكوت ديفوار، وإيطاليا، ومالي، إذ تبيّن كيف أن القصص لها القدرة على بناء روابط عبر الزمن والجغرافيا.
يمكن للزوار التجول في جناح أنغولا لاستكشاف الفن العتيق المنبثق من هندسة “سونا”، التي تستخدم الرسومات في سرد القصص. ويتيح الجناح –الذي يتضمن تجارب للكبار والصغار- فرصة للاطلاع على تقاليد الدولة التي بإمكانها تقديم حلول لتحديات العصر الحديث.
بينما في الأجواء الساكنة والهادئة التي يتسم بها جناح اليمن، فيمكن للزوار تجربة القوة المطلقة للمعرفة المستمدة من بلد كان موطنا لواحدة من أقدم الحضارات في العالم ويُنظر إليه على نطاقٍ واسع بوصفه مهد الحضارة العربية، حيث يتعرفون على كيفية استخدام طريقة سرد القصص في إعلام الجمهور وتثقيفه وترفيهه على مدار عدة قرون.
يمكن للزوار كذلك الحصول على فكرة عن التقاليد العربية الغنية في سرد القصص عند زيارة جناح سوريا؛ الدولة الرائدة في مجالات عدة، حيث كانت موطنا لأول محصول وأول أبجدية، بالإضافة إلى تراثها الزاخر بالقصص الرائعة. ويقدم جناح سوريا تاريخ البلد وحضارته جنبا إلى جنب مع رؤيته لمستقبل مشرق وذلك عبر الأدب والموسيقى والفنون.
يتيح جناح “صميم – رواية تراثنا” الموجود في الهواء الطلق انطلاق الزوار في رحلة عبر الزمن تصحبهم إلى الماضي قبل أن تحلق بهم في آفاق المستقبل، وهي رحلة مفعمة بلحظات حية وتفاعلية تتيح للزوار طريقة واقعية للتفاعل مع إمارات الدولة. يمكن للزوار في الجناح الدخول إلى بيوت المناطق الجبلية والصحراوية والساحلية، واستكشاف كيف ارتبطت تقاليد الماضي بالمستقبل بشكل حتمي.
