DUBAI, 26 December 2021 – Thaddeus Tukes and the Chicago Freedom Ensemble (CFE) enthralled spectators at the United States Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai on Sunday with their unique blend of Chicago jazz – with a twist.

The CFE has been described as a group of radical individuals who use music to trigger positive change in their communities by establishing connections between individuals and community organisations and actions. Founded on the streets of Chicago in the summer of 2020, its band members met while protesting injustices throughout the city.

Tukes is a renowned jazz composer, arranger and percussionist from Chicago. He graduated from Whitney M. Young Magnet High School and Northwestern University, where he studied jazz vibraphone, piano and journalism. Tukes has performed with a variety of artists including Branford Marsalis, Victor Goines, Roy Hargrove, Nicole Mitchell, Joan Collaso, and Chance the Rapper.

Together, their modern protest jazz music, combines elements of funk, hip hop and traditional jazz to reimagine protest songs from different generations.

Thaddeus Tukes and the Chicago Freedom Ensemble will perform again at the USA Pavilion at 1600 GST on 27 December and at 1930 GST on the Jubilee Stage. On 28 December, they will perform at 1530 GST at Jubilee, before a final show at the USA Pavilion at 1500 GST on 29 December.

وتمتاز فرقة شيكاغو فريدم إنسامبل باستخدام الموسيقى لتحفيز التغيير الإيجابي في مجتمعاتها، من خلال إقامة صلات بين الأفراد ومنظمات المجتمع. وتأسست الفرقة في شوارع مدينة شيكاغو الأميركية في صيف 2020، بعد أن التقى أعضاؤها خلال احتجاجات مطالبة بتحقيق العدالة بالمدينة.

أما ثاديوس تيوكس فهو مؤلف لموسيقى الجاز من شيكاغو أيضا. وتخرج تيوكس من كلية ويتني يانج العليا بجامعة نورث وسترن، حيث درس موسيقى الجاز وعزف البيانو، والصحافة.

الموسيقي ثاديوس تيوكس وفرقة شيكاغو فريدم إنسامبل سيعودان إلى الجناح الأميركي يوم غدٍ بعرض يقام الساعة 16:00، ويليه عرض على مسرح اليوبيل في إكسبو 2020 دبي الساعة 19:30، وفي يوم 28 ديسمبر سيكون العرض في الساعة 15:30، فيما تختتم العروض في الجناح الأميركي يوم 29 ديسمبر عند الساعة 15:00{:}
