{:en}DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES – National Kenaf and Tobacco Board (NKTB) with two kenaf based companies, namely Kenaf Ventures Global Sdn. Bhd. and Vertex Central Industries Sdn. Bhd. were among the participants of the Sustainable Agricommodity Week hosted by the Malaysia Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai to promote sustainable non-food agricommodities recently.
The programme showcased Malaysia’s journey, efforts and commitment in developing kenaf as a green fiber based industry including through research and development programme, policies and smart practices to improve both quality and production and promotion of sustainablity along the value chain (upstream, midstream and downstream) while at the same time uplift the livelihood of small scale farmers.
Among the highlights of the week involving the kenaf sector were the signing of six Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) between Kenaf Ventures Global Sdn. Bhd. with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), 3 universities (Britain’s University of Portsmouth and University of Bangor, and Germany’s OWL University of Applied Sciences and Arts), the National Development Planning (Bappenas) of the Republic of Indonesia and Vertex Central Industries Sdn Bhd.
The main focus of these MoUs is to forge cooperation in the advancement of technology, research, and development especially on the advancement of kenaf industry towards Industry 4.0 and Agricultural 4.0, finance cum investment and production of sustainable resource-based construction products, producing new products derived from kenaf and nurturing sustainability at a greater height.
Kenaf has numerous potentials in various industries such as building materials for construction, biocomposites, textiles, and many more. The virtuous source of high and improved quality cordage fiber can be processed into a variety of goods such as fiber and particle boards, fiber-reinforced plastic components, pulp and paper, chemical absorbents, and many others.
These high-value products have been commercialised by Malaysia and the expo has been a high-impact platform for the expansion of green fiber-based and sustainable products globally.
The sector’s participation in the global expo provides a huge impact to the industry by:
- Developing and strengthening cooperation/collaboration between foreign and local industries in fiber-based industries;
- Creating new demand for kenaf-based product to be used in the existing industries or any new segments with great potential;
- Integrating the objectives of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals into kenaf development plan, policies and technology; and
- Market expansion/reach by leveraging the global supply chain, smart and sustainable industrial management and industrial revolution via technology/technical exchange.

واستعرض برنامج الأسبوع رحلة ماليزيا وجهودها والتزامها في تطوير قطاع التيل باعتباره صناعة معتمدة على الألياف الخضراء، بما في ذلك من خلال البحث والتطوير، والسياسات والممارسات الذكية لتحسين كل من الجودة والانتاج، وكذلك الترويج للاستدامة على امتداد سلسلة القيمة، وبذات الوقت الارتقاء بمعيشة صغار المزارعين.
ومن بين أبرز الأحداث التي شهدها “أسبوع السلع الزراعية المستدامة” فيما يتعلق بقطاع التيل توقيع ست مذكرات تفاهم بين شركة “كيناف فينتشر جلوبال” مع مكتب الأمم المتحدة للحدّ من مخاطر الكوارث (UNDRR)، وثلاث جامعات، وهي جامعة بورتسموث بالمملكة المتحدة، وجامعة بانغور بالمملكة المتحدة، وجامعة إيست ويستفاليا-ليبي “أو.دبليو إل” للعلوم والفنون التطبيقية بألمانيا، ووزارة التخطيط التنموي الوطني الإندونيسية (بابيناس) و”فيرتكس سنترال إنداستريز”.
وتمثل التركيز الرئيسي لمذكرات التفاهم هذه في تعزيز التعاون في مجال دعم التكنولوجيا والبحث والتطوير، لا سيما على صعيد دعم تحول صناعة التيل نحو تطبيقات الثورة الصناعية الرابعة “الصناعة 4.0” والتكنولوجيا الزراعية “الزراعة 4.0″، وإنتاج مواد بناء بالاعتماد على موارد مستدامة، وإنتاج منتجات جديدة مشتقة من التيل، والارتقاء بالاستدامة إلى آفاق أرحب.
يتميز نبات التيل بإمكانات لا حصر لها في العديد من الصناعات كمواد البناء لقطاع الإنشاءات، والمواد المركبة الحيوية، والمنسوجات، وغيرها الكثير. ويمكن تحويل هذا المصدر الفعّال للألياف ذات الجودة العالية والمحسنة إلى مجموعة من المنتجات كالألواح الليفية والحبيبية، والمكونات البلاستيكية المعززة بالألياف، واللباب والورق، والمواد الكيميائية الماصة، والكثير من المنتجات الأخرى.
تم التسويق لهذه المنتجات عالية القيمة من قبل ماليزيا، فيما شكل “إكسبو 2020 دبي” منصة شديدة التأثير لدعم توسّع المنتجات المستدامة المعتمدة على الألياف الخضراء عالمياً.
ويعود إكسبو 2020 دبي بمنافع عديدة على صناعة التيل تتمثل بتطوير وتعزيز التعاون بين الشركات الأجنبية والمحلية في الصناعات المعتمدة على الألياف، وخلق طلب جديد على المنتجات المعتمدة على التيل لاستخدامه في الصناعات الحالية أو أي قطاعات جديدة، بالإضافة إلى دمج أهداف التنمية المستدامة للأمم المتحدة في خطة وسياسات وتكنولوجيا تطوير زراعة نبات التيل، وتوسيع نطاق صناعة التيل عبر الاستفادة من سلسلة الإمداد العالمية، والإدارة الصناعية الذكية والمستدامة والثورة الصناعية عبر تبادل التكنولوجيا والمعارف الفنية.
وسيستمر المجلس الوطني للكيناف والتبغ (NKTB) بالتأكيد على تنفيذ برامج ومبادرات عديدة لتمكين تطوير صناعة التيل، انطلاقاً من إدراكه لأهمية أن تحافظ هذه الصناعة على تنافسيتها واستدامتها إلى جانب توليد الدخل والمنفعة لأصحاب المصلحة.
