{:en}Abu Dhabi, UAE: The Zayed Sustainability Prize, the UAE’s pioneering global award for recognising organisations and high schools with sustainability solutions, has officially announced that the 2023 cycle is now open for submissions.
Entries will be accepted until 6 July 2022 through the Prize’s online portal. Small to medium enterprises, non-profit organisations and high schools with sustainability solutions are invited to submit an entry for consideration in one of the five categories of Heath, Food, Energy, Water and Global High Schools.
The Prize’s 2022 award cycle received a record-breaking 4,000 applications, marking a significant 68.5% increase in submissions compared to the previous cycle, from a record 151 countries.
Commenting on the launch of the 2023 submissions cycle, H.E. Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Director General of the Zayed Sustainability Prize said: “For the past 14 years, the Prize has proudly delivered on its goal of recognising and rewarding the achievements of those who are driving impactful, innovative and inspiring sustainability solutions. As we continue to build on this legacy, we look forward to awarding the next cadre of sustainability pioneers, who will drive real environmental and social change and generate an even greater positive impact on the world.”

The Prize’s US$3 million annual fund rewards winners US$600,000 in each category. The Global High Schools category is split into six world region winners, with each school able to claim up to US$100,000 to start or further expand their project. The six world regions of the Global High Schools category are The Americas, Europe & Central Asia, Middle East & North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and East Asia & Pacific.
Inspired by the sustainability and humanitarian legacy of the UAE’s founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Prize has, to date, recognised a total of 96 winners whose solutions or student-led school projects have positively transformed the lives of millions.
While the submission forms vary per category, core elements of each entry lie in the innovative, impactful and inspirational ways in which the proposed technology, applications and solutions aim to transform people’s lives for the better.
For the Health, Food, Energy, and Water categories, organisations should demonstrate that they are improving access to essential products or services and have a long-term vision for improved living and working conditions. For the Global High Schools category, their projects should be student–led, with emphasis placed on the students being actively involved in the planning, implementation, and monitoring processes.
The Zayed Sustainability Prize has a three-stage evaluation process, beginning with the due diligence conducted by an independent research and analysis consultancy. This identifies the qualified entries and results in the selection of eligible candidates. Following this, evaluations are undertaken by a Selection Committee consisting of category-specific panels of independent international experts. From this shortlist of candidates, the finalists are chosen and then sent to the Prize Jury who unanimously elect the winners, across all five categories.
Winners will be announced in 2023 during an Awards Ceremony as part of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW).

أبوظبي، الإمارات العربية المتحدة: أعلنت جائزة زايد للاستدامة عن فتح باب تقديم طلبات المشاركة في دورتها لعام 2023. وتهدف هذه الجائزة العالمية الرائدة، التي أسستها دولة الإمارات، إلى تكريم المؤسسات والمدارس الثانوية التي تمتلك مشاريع مبتكرة ومستدامة.
وتستقبل الجائزة طلبات المشاركة في دورتها الخامسة عشرة لغاية 6 يوليو 2022، وذلك من خلال الموقع الإلكتروني للجائزة. وسيكون تقديم الطلبات متاحاً للمنظمات غير الربحية، والشركات الصغيرة والمتوسطة، والمدارس الثانوية، وذلك ضمن فئات الجائزة الخمس وهي الصحة، والغذاء، والطاقة، والمياه، والمدارس الثانوية العالمية.
وتلقت الجائزة في دورة عام 2022 رقماً قياسياً في أعداد طلبات المشاركة بلغ 4000 طلب، بزيادة مقدارها 68.5% عن المشاركات في الدورة السابقة، في حين جاءت المشاركات من 151 دولة.
وبهذه المناسبة، قال معالي الدكتور سلطان بن أحمد الجابر، وزير الصناعة والتكنولوجيا المتقدمة، مدير عام جائزة زايد للاستدامة: “تماشياً مع توجيهات القيادة الرشيدة بدعم الاستدامة والعمل الإنساني، حققت الجائزة على مدى السنوات الـ 14 الماضية إنجازات عديدة ضمن رسالتها الهادفة إلى تشجيع وتكريم نخبة من أصحاب الحلول المستدامة التي تمتلك مقومات التأثير والابتكار والإلهام. واستمراراً لهذه الجهود، نتطلع إلى تكريم مجموعة أخرى من رواد الاستدامة الطامحين إلى تحقيق تقدمٍ ملموس في التنمية الاقتصادية والاجتماعية المستدامة وصون البيئة، والمساهمة بإحداث تأثير إيجابي أكبر على مستوى العالم”.
وأكد معاليه على أن شريحة الشباب تبقى محور التركيز الأساسي للجائزة التي تلتزم بتمكين أعداد أكبر من قادة الاستدامة في المستقبل عبر تزويدهم بمنصة لتحويل أفكارهم المبتكرة إلى واقع وذلك من خلال فئة المدارس الثانوية العالمية.
وأوضح معاليه بأن جائزة زايد للاستدامة تواصل دورها الرائد وسعيها الدؤوب لتحقيق التنمية المستدامة على المستوى العالمي، وذلك من خلال تعزيز الجهود في قطاعات الصحة والطاقة والغذاء والمياه، وإيصال الحلول إلى المجتمعات في مختلف أنحاء العالم بالتعاون مع الفائزين بالجائزة التي استطاعت المساهمة في تحسين مستوى حياة أكثر من 370 مليون شخص حتى الآن.
وتتوزع القيمة الإجمالية للجائزة والبالغة 3 ملايين دولار على الفئات الخمس، حيث تبلغ قيمة الجائزة المخصصة لكل فئة 600 ألف دولار، وتتوزع جائزة فئة المدارس الثانوية العالمية على المدارس الست الفائزة عن المناطق الست حول العالم بحيث تحصل كل مدرسة فائزة على مبلغ 100 ألف دولار لتتمكن من بدء مشروع جديد أو توسيع نطاق مشروع قائم. وتشمل المناطق الجغرافية الست المخصصة لفئة المدارس الثانوية العالمية كلاً من الأمريكيتين، وأفريقيا جنوب الصحراء الكبرى، والشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا، وأوروبا ووسط آسيا، وجنوب آسيا، وشرق آسيا والمحيط الهادئ.
وتم إطلاق الجائزة تخليداً لإرث الأب المؤسس الشيخ زايد بن سلطان آل نهيان، طيب الله ثراه، في مجال العمل الإنساني والتنمية المستدامة، حيث كرمت حتى الآن 96 فائزاً ساهمت حلولهم المبتكرة ومشاريعهم المدرسية المتميزة في إحداث تأثير إيجابي في حياة ملايين البشر حول العالم.
وفي حين تتوزع طلبات المشاركة على عدد من الفئات، لكن يتعين على كل مشروع أو حل أن يمتلك مقومات الابتكار والتأثير والإلهام والقدرة على إحداث تأثير ايجابي في حياة المجتمعات.
وفي ما يخص فئات الصحة، والغذاء، والطاقة، والمياه، يجب على المنظمات والشركات أن تقدم مشاريع تظهر إمكانية مساهمتها في تحسين فرص توفير المنتجات والخدمات الأساسية ضمن المجتمعات إلى جانب تقديم رؤية طويلة الأمد حول كيفية تحسين جودة الحياة وظروف العمل. أما بالنسبة إلى فئة المدارس الثانوية العالمية، فيتعين على المدارس تقديم مشاريع طلابية تركز على إشراك الطلبة في عمليات التخطيط والتنفيذ والمتابعة.
وتشمل عملية تقييم المشاريع المشاركة في جائزة زايد للاستدامة ثلاث مراحل، تبدأ بدراسة الطلبات من قِبل إحدى شركات البحث والتحليل الدولية المستقلة والمرموقة للتأكد من استيفائها لشروط ومعايير المشاركة. وفي المرحلة الثانية، تقوم لجنة الاختيار، التي تضم خبراء دوليين مستقلين من المتخصصين في المجالات التي تغطيها فئات الجائزة، بتقييم المشاريع ضمن القائمة القصيرة لاختيار القائمة النهائية للمرشحين. وفي المرحلة الثالثة، يقوم أعضاء لجنة التحكيم باختيار الفائزين ضمن فئات الجائزة الخمس.
سيجري الإعلان عن الفائزين بدورة جائزة زايد للاستدامة لعام 2023 ضمن الحفل السنوي لتوزيع الجوائز الذي يقام خلال أسبوع أبوظبي للاستدامة.
