Visa, DBWC and DIFC Hive Discuss Opportunities and Challenges Facing Female Owned Start-ups at ‘Women in Tech’ Forum
Forum is part of a series of initiatives to champion diversity and inclusion as part of Visa’s collaboration with the Dubai Business Women Council
As part of continued efforts to advance diversity and inclusion, Visa, the world’s leader in digital payments, partnered with the Dubai Business Women Council (DBWC) to co-host their Women in Tech Forum. Held virtually for the first time, the forum featured inspiring industry experts who came together to discuss what female entrepreneurs need for their businesses to survive and thrive in today’s evolving tech ecosystem.
The panel shared both their professional advice on their experience with mentoring and working with startups and larger organizations, and shared personal experiences and insights that have helped them shape their successful careers in the tech industry.
Visa’s Vice President, Fintech & Ventures, CEMEA, Otto Williams delved into the future of payments and innovation, the increased opportunities to take part in digital transformation agendas, various funding and investment avenues available to entrepreneurs and shed light on Visa’s Fast Track program and the latest Visa Everywhere Initiative that is targeted at supporting start-ups. One of the MENA region’s most influential women in technology, Raja Al Mazrouei, EVP, DIFC Fintech Hive, detailed the Hive’s different partnership and accelerator programs and the opportunities it provides for female entrepreneurs to accelerate their careers and lead new tech businesses. Building on the support available for founders, Malak Alsaffar, Country Manager – Bahrain, Visa, shared her perspective of the local and regional fintech ecosystem and her own experience in taking up the challenge of a mid-career move.
H.E Dr. Raja Al Gurg, President of the Dubai Business Women Council delivered her welcome address. She highlighted how partnerships and mentorship opportunities with digital payments leaders like Visa can drive, scale and foster a more diverse and inclusive tech ecosystem for women to launch and grow their careers and businesses.
Shahebaz Khan, Visa’s General Manager for UAE, said: “It’s no secret that women still face more challenges than male entrepreneurs, including getting equal access to capital and connecting with a network of other entrepreneurs and mentors for support. Visa signed a strategic partnership with Dubai Business Women Council earlier this year to champion the advancement and support the growth of female entrepreneurs in the UAE. Visa will also support DBWC’s flagship mentorship program where 12 experienced mentors from Visa will offer insight, advice, and ideas over a five-month period.
“In today’s world, technology has become a crucial factor in enhancing business competitiveness and the main catalyst to get the most out of the available investment opportunities,” said H.E Dr. Raja Al Gurg, President of the Dubai Business Women Council (DBWC), stressing that businesswomen and female entrepreneurs in the Dubai can harness technology in the service of their career objectives and produce tangible results. “Our partnership with Visa comes as part of our painstaking efforts to provide businesswomen and female-owned start-ups with the best expertise and experiences available in the international arena and the new tech that can help them advance their businesses,” added Al Gurg.
Stressing the importance of the forum as a perfect platform for supporting women with meaningful solutions, tools, and initiatives helping them take their businesses to new heights, Al Gurg pointed to the DBWC’s keenness to conclude strategic partnerships with major companies to help support Dubai’s development process and empower women in all workplaces.
These programs support Visa’s continual efforts to support small businesses – with a strong focus on women entrepreneurship, through its various platforms including She’s Next empowered by Visa, Where You Shop Matters and the Visa Everywhere Initiative.

في إطار الجهود المستمرة لتعزيز التنوع والشمول، وقعت شركة Visa العالمية الرائدة في مجال تكنولوجيا المدفوعات الرقمية، اتفاقية شراكة مع مجلس سيدات أعمال دبي للمشاركة في تنظيم المنتدى السنوي “المرأة في القطاع التقني” (Women in Tech). ومع تنظيمه بأسلوب افتراضي للمرة الأولى، جمع المنتدى نخبة من رواد القطاع الذين ناقشوا ما تحتاجه رائدات الأعمال لتمكين أعمالهن من الاستمرارية وتحقيق الازدهار ضمن المنظومة التقنية المتطورة التي تهيمن اليوم على سبل مزاولة الأعمال.
وتناول المشاركون في المنتدى أهم النصائح المهنية التي تستند إلى خبرتهم في توجيه الشركات الناشئة والمؤسسات الأكبر ومزاولة الأعمال معها؛ وتقاسموا تجاربهم الشخصية والرؤى التي ساعدتهم في تحقيق النجاح ضمن مسيرتهم المهنية ضمن القطاع التقني.
واستعرض أوتو ويليامز، نائب الرئيس شراكات الشركات التكنولوجيا المالية والمشاريع لدى Visa وسط أوروبا والشرق الأوسط وأفريقيا، مستقبل المدفوعات والابتكار، ووفرة فرص المشاركة في خطط التحول الرقمي، ومختلف طرق التمويل والاستثمار المتاحة لرواد الأعمال، وسلّط الضوء على برنامج “المسار السريع” من Visa ومبادرة “فيزا في كل مكان” (Visa Everywhere) التي تم إطلاقها مؤخراً لدعم الشركات الناشئة. وبدورها، استعرضت رجاء المزروعي، نائب الرئيس التنفيذي لـ”فينتك هايف” في مركز دبي المالي العالمي، والتي تعتبر واحدة من أبرز النساء المؤثرات في مجال التقنية في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا، برامج الشراكة المختلفة والمسرعات التي يوفرها برنامج “فينتك هايف” والفرص التي يمنحها لرائدات الأعمال في سبيل الارتقاء بحياتهن المهنية ومساعدتهن على قيادة شركات تقنية جديدة. وفي إطار الدعم الذي توفره Visa لرواد ومؤسسي الأعمال، شاركت ملك الصفّار، مدير عام Visa البحرين، وجهة نظرها حول المنظومة المحلية والإقليمية لقطاع التكنولوجيا المالية، وتجاربها الشخصية في مواجهة التحدي المتمثل بتغيير المسار في منتصف الحياة المهنية.
وألقت سعادة الدكتورة رجاء القرق، رئيسة مجلس سيدات أعمال دبي؛ كلمة ترحيبية. وسلطت الضوء على دور الشراكات وفرص التوجيه والإرشاد التي توفرها كبرى شركات المدفوعات الرقمية مثل Visa في الارتقاء بالأعمال والمساهمة في تكوين منظومة تقنية شاملة وأكثر تنوعاً، بما يساعد النساء على إطلاق العنان لقدراتهن والمضي قدماً في مسيرة مهنية حافلة بالنجاحات.

وكانت Visa قد أعلنت عن توقيع شراكة استراتيجية مع مجلس سيدات أعمال دبي مطلع هذا العام، تهدف إلى دعم رائدات الأعمال في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة. كما ستوفر الشركة الدعم لبرنامج التوجيه والإرشاد الرائد التابع للمجلس، حيث سيواصل 12 مستشاراً ومرشداً من Visa تقديم الرؤى والمشورة والأفكار لرائدات الأعمال على مدار 5 شهور.
من جانبها، قالت سعادة الدكتورة رجاء عيسى صالح القرق، رئيسة مجلس سيدات أعمال دبي: “أصبحت التكنولوجيا اليوم المساهم الأبرز في تعزيز القدرة التنافسية للأعمال والمحفز الرئيسي لتحقيق أقصى استفادة من الفرص الاستثمارية المتاحة”. كما وأكدت سعادتها أن سيدات الأعمال ورائدات الأعمال في دبي يمكنهن تسخير التكنولوجيا لخدمة أهدافهن المهنية وتحقيق نتائج ملموسة.
وأضافت سعادتها: “تعتبر شراكتنا مع Visa الإضافة الأحدث لجهودنا الرامية إلى تزويد سيدات الأعمال والشركات الناشئة المملوكة للنساء بأفضل الخبرات والتجارب والتقنيات العالمية المتاحة والقادرة على دعمهن لتطوير أعمالهن”.
ولفتت سعادة رجاء القرق إلى أهمية المنتدى كمنصة رائدة لدعم النساء عبر حلول وأدوات ومبادرات تساعدهن على الارتقاء بأعمالهن إلى آفاق جديدة. كما أكدت سعادتها حرص مجلس سيدات أعمال دبي على إبرام شراكات استراتيجية مع كبرى الشركات للمساعدة في دعم عملية التنمية في دبي وتمكين المرأة في جميع أماكن العمل.
جدير بالذكر أن هذه البرامج تعتبر جزءاً من جهود Visa المتواصلة لدعم الشركات الصغيرة لاسيما التي تعود ملكيتها لرائدات الأعمال، وذلك من خلال منصاتها المختلفة بما في ذلك مبادرات She’s Next من Visa و”خياركم مؤثر” و”فيزا في كل مكان“.
حول مبادرة “فيزا في كل مكان”
مبادرة “فيزا في كل مكان” هي برنامج عالمي لحفز الابتكار من “فيزا” يهدف إلى تشجيع الشركات الناشئة وشركات التكنولوجيا المالية على إيجاد حلول للتحديات المستقبلية في قطاعيّ التجارة والمدفوعات، وتحسين عروض منتجاتهم الخاصة، وتقديم حلول مبتكرة لشبكة شركاء “فيزا” الواسعة.
انطلقت المبادرة لأول مرة في الولايات المتحدة عام 2015، وسرعان ما انتشرت على المستوى العالمي لتستقطب ما يزيد على 7000 شركة ناشئة. ووصلت قيمة التمويل الذي قدمته المبادرة حتى الآن إلى أكثر من 2,5 مليار دولار، حيث شملت المبادرة 6 قارات ووصلت إلى ما يزيد على 100 دولة.
