A Government Affairs Director from AstraZeneca, the developer of one of the leading COVID-19 vaccines in partnership with Oxford University, has praised the UAE’s vaccine rollout program by highlighting the work done by health authorities in the region to make vaccines available as soon as possible.
To date, over 12.1 million vaccination doses have been administered in the UAE with a vaccine distribution rate of over 124 doses per 100 people, with approximately 70,000 doses of the vaccine administered daily. In terms of population vaccinated, the UAE is currently fourth after the Seychelles, Maldives and Israel.
Qutaiba Al Manaseer, Government Affairs Director, Middle East and Africa, AstraZeneca, said: Middle East countries have been successful in their efforts to make vaccines available as soon as possible. Health authorities across the region have developed agile regulatory systems and adapted rolling review strategies to ensure a fast but thorough regulatory process.
“Specifically, the UAE ranks among the best in the world in terms of the speed of its vaccination programme. This is attributed to strong efforts from key senior stakeholders who worked collaboratively with health authorities to deliver impactful campaigns that are aimed at increasing the trust in the safety of vaccines available in the country, and uptake from the local population,” added Al Manaseer.
The comments were made ahead of the inaugural Pharma and Drug Discovery Conference to be held on the opening day of Arab Health, which takes place from 21-24 2021 June at the Dubai World Trade Centre. During the conference, Mr Al Manaseer will be presenting the session Oxford University and AstraZeneca partnership towards broad and equitable access to COVID-19 Vaccine.
“From the start of the pandemic, AstraZeneca’s approach has focused on partnering with scientists, governments, multilateral organisations and manufacturers to establish agreements for the development and supply of our vaccine, and to fight the pandemic, together,” said Al Manaseer.
“At AstraZeneca, we were proud to be the first global pharmaceutical company to join COVAX in June 2020. Through the initiative, we are partnering with CEPI, Gavi, the WhO, UNICEF and PAHO and our subscribing partner, the Serum Institue of India, to enable equitable and global access to our vaccine. Together, we have already delivered 37 million doses of our vaccine, including critical deliveries to countries in the Middle East. It is only through effective partnerships that reaching these milestones was made possible,” he added.
Among the experts presenting at the Pharma & Drug Discovery Conference, are Dr Yang Xiaoming, Chairman of the China National Biotech Group (CNBG), Prof Graham Ball, Professor of Bioinformatics, Nottingham and Trent University, UK, and Prof Mirza Baig, Professor and Chairman of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacotherapeutics, Dubai Pharmacy College for Girls.

The conference will be chaired by Dr Mohammed Al-Gamal, Associate Professor, College of Pharmacy, Medicinal Chemistry, Group Coordinator, Drug Design and Discovery Group, University of Sharjah.

أشاد مدير الشؤون الحكومية في شركة أسترازينيكا للصناعات الدوائية، إحدى الشركات المطورة لأحد لقاحات كوفيد-19 الرائدة بالشراكة مع جامعة أكسفورد، ببرنامج طرح اللقاحات في الإمارات العربية المتحدة من خلال تسليط الضوء على العمل الذي تقوم به السلطات الصحية في المنطقة لإتاحة اللقاحات في أقرب وقت ممكن.
حتى الآن، تم تقديم أكثر من 12.1 مليون جرعة تطعيم في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة بمعدل توزيع لقاح يزيد عن 124 جرعة لكل 100 شخص، مع ما يقرب من 70000 جرعة من اللقاح يتم إعطاؤها يوميًا، إذ تحتل دولة الإمارات حالياً المرتبة الرابعة بعد جزر المالديف وإسرائيل وسيشل من حيث عدد السكان المطعمين.
وبهذه المناسبة، قال قتيبة المناصير، مدير الشؤون الحكومية لمنطقة الشرق الأوسط وإفريقيا لدى شركة أسترازينيكا: “في رأيي، فقد نجحت بلدان منطقة الشرق الأوسط في جهودها لإتاحة اللقاحات في أسرع وقت ممكن، حيث قامت السلطات الصحية في جميع أنحاء المنطقة بتطوير أنظمة مرنة واستراتيجيات مراجعة متجددة لضمان حدوث عملية تنظيمية سريعة وشاملة.
وأضاف المناصير قائلاً: “تحتل دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة المرتبة الأولى بين الأفضل في العالم من حيث سرعة إطلاق برنامج التطعيم الخاص بها، ويُعزى ذلك إلى الجهود الكبيرة المبذولة من قبل كبار أصحاب المصلحة الرئيسيين الذين عملوا بشكل تعاوني وثيق مع السلطات الصحية لتقديم حملات تطعيم مؤثرة تهدف إلى تعزيز الثقة في سلامة اللقاحات المتوفرة في البلاد والاستفادة الكاملة منها من قبل السكان المحليين”.
جاءت هذه التعليقات قبل المؤتمر الافتتاحي للأدوية واكتشاف الأدوية الذي سيعقد في يوم افتتاح معرض الصحة العربي (آراب هيلث)، الذي سينعقد في الفترة من 21 إلى 24 يونيو 2021 في مركز دبي التجاري العالمي، وسيقدم السيد المناصير خلال هذا المؤتمر جلسة شراكة بين جامعة أكسفورد وأسترا زينيكا من أجل الوصول الواسع والعادل إلى لقاح كوفيد-19.
وفي هذا الإطار، علق المناصير قائلاً: ” ركز نهج أسترازينيكا منذ بداية الجائحة على الشراكة مع العلماء والحكومات والمنظمات المتعددة الأطراف والمصنعين لإبرام اتفاقيات وشراكات لتطوير وتوريد لقاحنا ومحاربة تفشي الجائحة معًا”.
وأضاف المناصير قائلاً: “تفخر أسترازينيكا بكونها أول شركة أدوية عالمية تنضم إلى مبادرة لقاحات كوفاكس العالمية في يونيو 2020، ومن خلال هذه المبادرة نتشارك مع الائتلاف المعني بابتكارات التأهب لمواجهة الأوبئة (CEPI) والتحالف العالمي من أجل اللقاحات والتمنيع (Gavi) ومنظمة الصحة العالمية واليونيسيف ومنظمة الصحة للبلدان الأمريكية وشريكنا المشترك معهد سيروم في الهند، من أجل تسريع استحداث وتصنيع لقاحات مضادة لمرض كوفيد-19، وضمان إتاحتها بشكل عادل ومنصف لكل بلدٍ من بلدان العالم، فلقد قمنا بالفعل بتسليم 37 مليون جرعة من لقاحنا معًا، بما في ذلك عمليات التسليم الحرجة إلى بلدان في الشرق الأوسط، حيث لم يكن الوصول إلى هذه البلدان أمراً ممكناً إلا من خلال تلك الشراكات الفعالة”.
ومن بين الخبراء الحاضرين في مؤتمر الأدوية واكتشاف الأدوية الدكتور يانغ شياو مينغ، رئيس مجموعة الصين الوطنية للتكنولوجيا الحيوية (CNBG) والبروفيسور غراهام بول، أستاذ المعلوماتية الحيوية في جامعة نوتننغهام ترينت في المملكة المتحدة والبروفيسور ميرزا بايغ، أستاذ ورئيس الصيدلة السريرية والعلاج الدوائي في كلية الصيدلة بدبي للبنات.
كما ستأتي رؤى بارزة أخرى خلال المؤتمر من كلٍ من: البروفيسور بيتر هوتز، مدير مركز تكساس للأطفال لتطوير اللقاحات (CVD) وعميد المدرسة الوطنية للطب الاستوائي وأستاذ طب الأطفال وعلم الفيروسات الجزيئية والأحياء الدقيقة في كلية بايلور للطب والبروفيسور الدكتور ستيفان هيوفمان، مدير وعضو علمي في معهد ماكس بلانك لبيولوجيا العدوى والأستاذ الدكتور محمد سمرين، أستاذ ورئيس قسم الكيمياء الطبية في كلية الصيدلة بجامعة الشارقة والبروفيسور الدكتور جونفيج جروديلاند، باحث أول ورئيس المجموعة في مستشفى أوسلو الجامعي في أوسلو وفرشاد غويراخو، كبير المسؤولين العلميين لمبادرة كوفاكس العالمية وفاكسينيتي.
هذا ويترأس المؤتمر الدكتور محمد الجمل، الأستاذ المشارك بكلية الصيدلة والكيمياء الطبية ومنسق المجموعة لمجموعة تصميم الأدوية واكتشافها في جامعة الشارقة.
من جهته علق روس ويليامز مدير معرض ومؤتمر آراب هيلث قائلاً: “كان تطوير الأدوية في طليعة جدول أعمالنا لما يقرب من 18 شهرًا وسيبقى موضوعًا للنقاش في المستقبل القريب، ونحن ملتزمون من خلال معرض ومؤتمر آراب هيلث بمعالجة الموضوعات الأكثر صلة في قطاع الرعاية الصحية، وعلى هذا النحو فقد قمنا بجمع نخبة من الخبراء العالميين لتشكيل مستقبل النماذج المبتكرة في اكتشاف الأدوية”.
سيقام معرض ومؤتمر آراب هيلث لهذا العام تحت شعار “بالأعمال نتحد ودفع الصناعة نحو الأمام“، ومن المتوقع أن يستقبل الحدث الحضوري 3500 شركة عارضة وأكثر من 51000 مشارك من 170 دولة لحضور المعرض بنسختيه الحية والافتراضية.
هذا ومن المتوقع أن يجتمع أكثر من 300 متحدث في مؤتمر آراب هيلث لتحسين ممارساتهم الطبية وتحسين نتائج المرضى في نهاية المطاف، وسيتم انعقاد ما مجموعه 12 مؤتمرًا في الفترة ما بين 21-24 يونيو 2021، تسعة منها ستكون متمحورة على التعليم الطبي المستمر، إذ يسمح كل مؤتمر منها للمشاركين بالتواصل وتطوير أفضل الممارسات الدولية.
وفي الشهر الذي يسبق إقامة المعرض في دبي، سيستضيف آراب هيلث سلسلة من الندوات الرقمية اليومية، بهدف إتاحة الفرصة أمام المشاركين للقاء الشخص أو الجهة المناسبة وإبرام الاتفاقيات والصفقات التجارية معها، كما سيتم عرض لأحدث المنتجات والتطورات التكنولوجية وانعقاد مجموعة من الجلسات الإعلامية المركزة التي تجذب المتخصصين في مجال الطب والرعاية الصحية سواءً من المنطقة أو من خارجها.
