AASTS successfully participates in the 3rd Academic Discipline Virtual Exhibition
Presenting the latest educational courses and capabilities in smart education through its advanced systems in addition to showcasing the significance of the maritime industry and the ample opportunities in the sector
As part of its constant effort to attract more students interested in maritime education, the Arab Academy for Science Technology and Maritime Transport branch in Sharjah has successfully participated in the 3rd Academic Discipline Virtual Exhibition organized by Sharjah Libraries. The Academy presents to all attendees from students, parents and all government and private entities, its advanced capabilities in the field of maritime education. Hundreds of students have attended the Academy’s session as the official admission has been opened for new patch in both Maritime Transport Technology and Marine Engineering Technology.
The e-conference session was held with the participation of Mr. Yousif Yacoub Al Mansouri, Director, Office of the Chairman for the Board of Trustees, AASTS; Prof. Mohamed Khedr, Dean of Admission & Registration, AASTS; Dr. Capt. Ahmed Youssef, Associate Dean, College of Maritime Transport and Technology, AASTS; Dr. Mohamed ElGohary, Director of Admission & Registration Dept., AASTS. Speakers emphasized the importance of receiving the right kind of education, training and preparation in order to pursue a successful career in the sector.
Reinforcing UAE Maritime Capabilities
In this regard, H.E. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar Ismail Farag, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, pointed out: “Capitalizing on the strategic location of the UAE at the heart of global trade routes, in addition to the UAE’s advanced marine infrastructure, the country is ranked as one of the best global maritime hubs according to many international reports. In line with the UAE preparation for the next 50 years, it is a significant step for us to participate in such event in order to create more awareness about the benefits that we provide to students who are looking for highly competitive new educational opportunities in the maritime sector as there has been a strong demand for qualified local cadres, especially in the GCC.”
H.E Dr. Farag added, “Our mission is to graduate skilled professionals who will add value to the industry. By offering them a true hands-on practical experience. We also encourage them to think outside-the-box and focus on innovation and the utility of technology-enabled solutions. We are confident that these interactive e-sessions that unite competent maritime professionals and school students will inspire the younger generation to be a part of the industry.”
Attracting the young Emirati caliber
Mr. Yousif Yacoub Al Mansouri, Director, Office of the Chairman for the Board of Trustees, AASTS said, “Over the past years, the UAE has maintained its competitive rank in the global maritime sector. Therefore, we consider ourselves key partners in the UAE’s pioneering maritime journey. We work in line with the government’s strategic goals and H.H Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah’s vision aiming to qualify the UAE caliber, and especially in empowering women in the maritime sector. We are proud that the Academy has the highest percentage of female students in the Middle East; with 40% of the total students. This achieves the UAE’s gender balance goals, and will make us a global model for empowering women in the maritime sector, which is usually dominated by men.”
He added, “Our purpose behind participating in this networking platform is to inform and educate the future generation by facilitating the exchange of ideas and experiences by well-established maritime professionals. We are working in line with the goals set by the wise leadership of the UAE, in alignment with the UAE’s National Youth Agenda that hopes to empower the younger generation. To help students make an informed career choice, we believe it is our responsibility as the leading maritime academy in the region to provide them with the right resources and give them access to key industry leaders.”
About the strategic value of the maritime sector in the UAE, Dr. Capt. Ahmed Youssef, Associate Dean, College of Maritime Transport and Technology, AASTS, highlighted, “The UAE is one of the key destinations for maritime business, as the volume of the industry exceeds 280 billion dirhams, and it hosts dozens of international marine companies. Moreover, the UAE owns more than 19 ports, some of which are ranked among the top ten ports globally. For this reason, the maritime industry needs great support from academic institutions. The Academy plays a central role in bridging the shortage of Emirati cadres needed by the local and regional market in general, in addition to contributing to the enhancement of the UAE’s position as one of the most important international maritime centers, not only in terms of infrastructure and maritime facilities, but also as a scientific center for the latest in research, development and innovation.”
He clarified, “At AASTS, we provide a cohesive learning experience. We give utmost importance to academics and theoretical knowledge, but we also firmly believe that practical experiences are essential. Interactions with industry experts will enrich their learning and give them a clear picture of the industry and the success they can achieve as maritime professionals. Eventually, by inspiring our students, we hope to contribute to the success of the national, regional and global industry that is in dire need of talented individuals.”
Marine Specialties
The academy offers two specializations in the first phase: Maritime Transport Technology, which contains two specializations: port operations and offshore operations. Thus, graduates will be qualified with a Bachelor of Maritime Transport Technology and 2nd Mate Certificate of Competency. As for the second major, the Department of Marine Engineering Technology will qualify students with Bachelor of Marine Engineering Technology in addition to a 3rd Maritime Engineer Certificate of Competency. Both disciplines qualify students to work on board of merchant vessels and onshore in diverse port and maritime careers.
About the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport branch in Sharjah:
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Sharjah and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport subsidiary of the Arab States University, headquartered in Egypt, to establish a branch of the Academy in Khorfakkan, Sharjah. Dr. Ismail Abdul Ghaffar Ismail Farag, President of the Academy has signed the MOU at the headquarters of the Sharjah Research Academy. In its plans, the new academy in the Emirate of Sharjah will graduate students specializing in various maritime science and technology majors, international maritime logistics and international maritime law, which will provide modern specialized quality studies and provide the market with specialists in all fields of maritime work.

تم خلال الجلسة التعريفية الافتراضية استعراض أحدث تخصصات الأكاديمية وإمكاناتها، من خلال تدريس أحدث المناهج المتطورة، كما تم تسليط الضوء على ما يقدمه القطاع البحري من فرص مهنية واعدة
الشارقة، الإمارات العربية المتحدة، 2 يونيو 2021: تماشياً مع جهودها المستمرة من أجل بناء مستقبل واعد للكوادر الشبابية وتوعية طلاب المدارس، شاركت الأكاديمية العربية للعلوم والتكنولوجيا والنقل البحري فرع الشارقة في الجلسة التعريفية الخاصة بالدورة الثالثة لمعرض التخصصات الجامعية بالشارقة في نسخته الافتراضية. حيث قامت الأكاديمية بعرض قدراتها التعليمية وإمكاناتها المتقدمة في مجال التعليم البحري أمام المشاركين من الطلاب وأولياء الأمور، وبحضور عدد من الجهات الحكومية. وقد شارك مئات الطلاب في هذه الجلسة، التي تم الإعلان خلالها عن فتح باب التسجيل في الأكاديمية للفصل القادم، بتخصّصي بكالوريوس تكنولوجيا الهندسة البحرية + شهادة مهندس ثالث، وبكالوريوس تكنولوجيا النقل البحري + شهادة ضابط ثان ملاحة.
وقد شارك في الجلسة كل من الأستاذ يوسف يعقوب المنصوري، مدير مكتب رئيس مجلس الأمناء بالأكاديمية، والأستاذ الدكتور محمد خضر، عميد القبول والتسجيل، والدكتور الرُبان أحمد يوسف، نائب عميد كلية النقل البحري والتكنولوجيا، والدكتور محمد الجوهري، مدير القبول والتسجيل بالأكاديمية، مؤكدين على أهمية حصول الراغبين في مواصلة تعليمهم العالي على التأهيل والتدريب الجيد والمناسب، من أجل شَغل أفضل المناصب القيادية في القطاع البحري بالمستقبل.
أهمية تعزيز القدرات البحرية لدولة الإمارات
بهذه المناسبة أوضح سعادة الأستاذ الدكتور إسماعيل عبد الغفار إسماعيل فرج، رئيس الأكاديمية العربية للعلوم والتكنولوجيا والنقل البحري، قائلاً: “اعتبارًا للموقع الاستراتيجي لدولة الإمارات في قلب طرق التجارة، وما حققته من مكانة كمركز بحري عالمي، تعد مشاركتنا في هذا الحدث خطوة هامّة، تتماشى مع استعدادات الإمارات للخمسين عاماً القادمة، من أجل توعية طلاب المدارس المُهتمين بالقطاع البحري، وما يفتحه أمامهم من فرص مهنية عديدة.”
وأضاف عبد الغفار: “نثق بأن هذه الجلسات التعريفية التفاعلية التي تجمع بين طلاب المدارس وفريقنا الخبير أكاديميًا وبحريًا، سيكون لها قيمة كبيرة في إلهام الشباب وتشجيعهم كي يلتحقوا بالقطاع البحري، كما أننا نطمح دومًا إلى تخريج كوادر بحرية مؤهلة تأهيلاً جيداً، لنضخ دماءً جديدة في الصناعة البحرية، وذلك من خلال تزويدهم بالخبرة العملية لمواجهة مصاعب المهنة قبل خوض التجارب الحقيقية في الحياة العملية، وتشجيعهم وتحفيز مهارات الإبداع والابتكار لديهم.”
استقطاب الكفاءات الإماراتية الشابة
من جهته قال الأستاذ يوسف يعقوب المنصوري، مدير مكتب رئيس مجلس أمناء فرع الأكاديمية العربية للعلوم والتكنولوجيا والنقل البحري بالشارقة: “نعمل جاهدين على تحقيق الرؤية الاستراتيجية لحكومة الإمارات التي حافظت لسنوات عديدة على مكانتها التنافسية في القطاع البحري عالمياً كما نسعى دوماً إلى تمكين رؤية صاحب السمو الشيخ الدكتور سلطان بن محمد القاسمي عضو المجلس الأعلى حاكم الشارقة “حفظه الله ورعاه” في دعم تنافسية الكوادر الوطنية علمياً ومهنياً. حيث نعتبر أنفسنا شريكًا في مسيرة الدولة البحرية، لاسيما في مجال تمكين المرأة في القطاع البحري، فنسبة الطالبات في الأكاديمية بلغت حوالي 40 بالمئة من مجموع طلابنا، ما يساعد على تحقيق التوازن بين الجنسين، ويجعل منّا نموذجًا عالميًا لتمكين المرأة في القطاع البحري الذي يهيمن عليه الذكور علي مر العصور.”
وأضاف المنصوري: “لمساعدة الطلاب على اتخاذ قرارات أكاديمية سليمة؛ نؤمن أنه من واجبنا كأكاديمية بحرية رائدة، تزويد الشباب بالموارد المناسبة، وإتاحة الفرص أمامهم للتواصل مع قادة الصناعة البحرية، ونسعى إلى تحقيق هذا الهدف انطلاقًا من الرؤية التي وضعتها لنا قيادتنا الرشيدة، وبما يتماشى مع الأجندة الوطنية للشباب في دولة الإمارات.”
وتأكيدًا على القيمة الاستراتيجية للقطاع البحري بدولة الإمارات، قال الدكتور الربان أحمد يوسف، نائب عميد كلية النقل البحري والتكنولوجيا: “تعد الإمارات واحدة من أهم الوجهات الرئيسة للأعمال البحرية؛ حيث يتخطى حجم الصناعة فيها ٢٨٠ مليار درهم. كما تحتوي على عشرات الشركات الملاحية العالمية، إضافة إلى امتلاكها لأكثر من 19 ميناءً بحريًا، تم تصنيف بعضًا منها ضمن أفضل عشر موانئ على مستوى العالم. لذلك يحتاج القطاع البحري إلى دعم كبير من قِبل المؤسسات التعليمية؛ وهنا تلعب الأكاديمية دوراً مركزياً في تلبية الطلب على الكوادر البحرية الإماراتية التي يحتاجها السوق المحلي والإقليمي، إضافة إلى المساهمة في تعزيز مكانة الإمارات كواحدة من أهم المراكز الملاحية الدولية، ليس فقط على صعيد بنيتها التحتية ومرافقها البحرية، ولكن أيضاً كمركز علمي للتطوير والابتكار.”
وأوضح قائلاً: “نحرص في الأكاديمية على تقديم تجربة تعليمية متكاملة، ونولي أهمية قصوى للمعرفة الأكاديمية النظرية، في ذات الوقت الذي لا نغفل فيه التركيز على بناء الخبرات العملية، لذا، نحرص على تواجد طلابنا في الميدان، وزيادة تفاعلهم مع الخبراء في القطاع البحري، لأن ذلك يُثري معرفتهم، ويعطيهم صورة واضحة عن النجاحات التي يمكن أن يحققوها. ونأمل أن نساهم في نجاح الصناعة الوطنية والإقليمية والعالمية التي تحتاج اليوم أكثر من أي وقت مضى إلى المزيد من الكوادر النوعية.”
التخصصات التي تقدمها الأكاديمية
توفر الأكاديمية الدراسة في تخصصين ؛ الأول هو بكالوريوس تكنولوجيا النقل البحري + شهادة ضابط ثان ملاحة في مجالين: الشحن وعمليات الموانئ، وتكنولوجيا خدمات الحقول البحرية؛ والثاني هو بكالوريوس تكنولوجيا الهندسة البحرية + شهادة مهندس ثالث؛ حيث يؤهل كلا التخصصين الطلاب للعمل على متن السفن التجارية.
عن الأكاديمية العربية للعلوم والتكنولوجيا والنقل البحري فرع الشارقة:
وقع صاحب السمو الشيخ الدكتور سلطان بن محمد القاسمي عضو المجلس الأعلى حاكم الشارقة، مذكرة تفاهم بين حكومة الشارقة والأكاديمية العربية للعلوم والتكنولوجيا والنقل البحري التابعة لجامعة الدول العربية ومقرها في جمهورية مصر العربية، لإنشاء فرع للأكاديمية في مدينة خورفكان بإمارة الشارقة، وقع المذكرة عن الأكاديمية العربية الدكتور إسماعيل عبد الغفار إسماعيل رئيس الأكاديمية، وذلك في مقر أكاديمية الشارقة للبحوث. وتوفر الأكاديمية الدراسة بكُلْيَة النقل البحري والتي بها تخصصين رئيسيْن، هما: تكنولوجيا النقل البحري الذي يحتوي على تخصصين فرعيين؛ وهما عمليات الموانئ والعمليات البحرية الداعمة “Offshore Operations” وبالتالي سيتأهل الخريجون للحصول على درجة البكالوريوس بالإضافة إلى منحهم شهادات ضابط ثان. أما التخصص الرئيس الثاني فهو قسم تكنولوجيا الهندسة البحرية، ويحصل الخريج على درجة بكالوريوس في تكنولوجيا الهندسة البحرية بالإضافة إلى شهادة مهندس ثالث بحري، وكلا التخصصين يؤهلان الطلاب للعمل على السفن التجارية وسفن الإمداد والخدمات البترولية بالإضافة إلى الخبرة اللازمة للعمل في كافة المؤسسات البحرية.{:}
