Yahsat and Airbus complete Preliminary Design Review of next generation satellite, Thuraya 4-NGS
Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat), the leading global satellite operator wholly-owned by Mubadala, and Airbus today announced the realisation of a key milestone in the construction of the Thuraya 4-NGS next generation mobile telecommunications system, the successful completion of its Preliminary Design Review (PDR).
Thuraya 4-NGS is part of a transformational programme delivering a comprehensive, new L-band ecosystem with the upgrade of Thuraya’s space and ground, and user (products and solutions) segments. Complemented by a 5G-ready core network, Yahsat’s newest satellite system will ensure increased coverage and capacity, while delivering next generation mobility solutions for all customer segments, including defence, government, enterprise and consumers.
The PDR provided a comprehensive review, validating Airbus’ design approach for both the physical and functional requirements of the satellite system. It also marked an important step towards the on-schedule completion of the Thuraya 4-NGS satellite and confirms its effectiveness for in-orbit operation. In addition to the PDR being a major milestone in the programme’s development, the achievement also demonstrates Yahsat’s commitment towards transforming Thuraya and building its next-generation system.

About Thuraya 4-NGS
The new system will spur the company’s growth across many strategic product lines, existing and new. These include maritime, IoT and data solutions, offering a wide spectrum of unique features and the highest speeds available in the market.
The satellite will use a large 12-metre L-band antenna and a payload with sophisticated on-board processing, facilitating flexible routing of up to 3,200 channels, along with dynamic power allocation across a large number of spot beams. Thuraya 4-NGS will provide a world of opportunities to customers, service partners, equipment vendors, and system integrators, enhancing user experience across land, sea and air.

للقمر الصناعي الجديد “الثريا 4- NGS“
أعلنت اليوم كل من شركة الياه للاتصالات الفضائية (الياه سات)، مشغل الأقمار الصناعية الرائد عالمياً والمملوكة بالكامل من قبل شركة مبادلة للاستثمار، وشركة “إيرباص”، ، عن اجتياز مرحلة هامة في عملية إنشاء الجيل الأحدث من نظام الاتصالات المتنقلة “الثريا 4- NGS”، وذلك بالإنتهاء من مرحلة المراجعة الأولية للتصميم (PDR).
ويشكل القمر الصناعي “الثريا 4- NGS” جزءاً من استثمارات “الياه سات” لتوفير منظومة شاملة جديدة قائمة على النطاق الترددي L-band، مع تحديث أنظمة شركة “الثريا” الفضائية والأرضية وتطوير المنتجات والخدمات الخاصة بالمستخدمين. وسيضمن نظام القمر الصناعي الجديد، المزوّد بشبكة أساسية قادرة على تقديم اتصالات الجيل الخامس (5G)، زيادة تغطية وقدرات الخدمات التي تقدمها الشركة، مع توفير الجيل الأحدث من الحلول المتنقلة للعملاء من مختلف القطاعات، بما فيها القطاعات الدفاعية والحكومية والشركات والأفراد.
وتتيح المراجعة الأولية للتصميم تقييماً شاملاً يضمن استيفاء التصميم المقدم من شركة “إيرباص” لجميع المتطلبات الفيزيائية والوظيفية للقمر الصناعي الجديد، وتشكل خطوة مهمة نحو إتمام صناعته في الموعد المحدد. كما تؤكد هذه المراجعة على فعالية القمر الصناعي عند وصوله إلى مداره وتشغيله. وتعد هذه المرحلة إنجازاً هاماً، حيث تؤكد على التزام “الياه سات” بتحقيق تحوّل شامل في “الثريا” وبناء الجيل الجديد من أنظمتها.
وبهذا الصدد، قال فرانسوا غولييه- رئيس أنظمة الاتصالات في شركة إيرباص: “إن هذا الإنجاز يعتبر بمثابة تأكيد على أهمية التصميم الفني وقدرات القمر الصناعي “الثريا 4-NGS”، فضلاً عن الالتزام والاحترافية التي يتمتع بها فريق العمل في “الياه سات” و”إيرباص”، ما يمهد الطريق لإنجاز المراحل القادمة من هذا البرنامج المبتكر، والاستفادة من خبرات “إيرباص” الواسعة في مجال الاتصالات المتنقلة، بالإضافة إلى أحدث تقنيات المعالجة الرقمية للحمولة الفضائية ما يوفر مرونة وقدرة أكبر على التكيف في المدار. كما يمكن لشركة “الياه سات” الاعتماد علينا وعلى جودة حلولنا والتزامنا الراسخ بإنجاح مشروع الثريا 4-NGS.
نبذة عن “الثريا 4- NGS”
سيعزز النظام الجديد من نمو الشركة والخدمات التي توفرها حالياً والخدمات الجديدة في عدة خطوط إنتاج استراتيجية، تتضمن المواصلات البحرية وإنترنت الأشياء (IoT) وحلول البيانات، عبر توفير نطاقٍ واسع من الميزات وتحقيق سرعات هي الأكبر في الأسواق.
وسيتضمن هذا القمر هوائي L-band بقطر 12 متراً مع معالجات إلكترونية للاتصالات تقوم بالتحكم بقنوات تردد تصل الى 3200 مما يمنحها المرونة، بالإضافة الى التوزيع الديناميكي للطاقة على عدد كبير من الحزم المركزة. وسيتيح قمر “الثريا 4- NGS” فرصاً واسعة للعملاء وشركاء الخدمة والجهات المسؤولة لبيع المعدات ودمج الأنظمة، مما يقوم بتحسين تجربة المستخدمين ضمن مختلف المنصات البرية والبحرية والجوية.
وتحدث عدنان المهيري، الرئيس التنفيذي المعيّن للشؤون التقنية في “الياه سات” قائلاً: “المراجعة الأولية للتصميم خطوة مهمة للتأكد من تحقيق أعلى المعايير الممكنة في قطاع الأقمار الفضائية، وتطبق بعد مراجعة ومتابعة موسّعة لمجمل التصميم أجراها فريقنا من المهندسين. ونحن سعيدون بإتمام مرحلة المراجعة الأولية للتصميم في الموعد المحدد، وما يحمله من تأكيد على التقدم الكبير نحو إتمام هذا النظام المتطور للاتصالات الفضائية المتنقلة، والمدعوم بشبكة أرضية جاهزة لتقديم اتصالات الجيل الخامس”.
ومن جانبه قال راشد الحمادي، مدير المشروع في “الياه سات”: “نتائج المراجعة الأولية لتصميم قمر “الثريا 4- NGS” أكبر دليل على التفاني والمواهب المميزة في “الياه سات” و”إيرباص”. فتطوير هذا القمر الصناعي يتضمن العمل على المنصة والحمولة والعناصر الأرضية، والتي تعد استثنائية من ناحية التصميم ومتطلبات الأداء”.
وإختتم الحمادي حديثه قائلاً: “المراجعة الأولية للتصميم تشمل تقييم الأنظمة الفرعية في القمر الصناعي، وتوافقها مع مركبات الإطلاق، وغيرها من العناصر الهامة. ومن الجيد أن نرى هذه المرحلة التقنية مكتملة وفقاً للجدول الزمني المحدد لها، ما يمنحنا الكثير من الثقة بينما ننتقل إلى المرحلة التالية من هذا المشروع”.
