SHANGRI-LA MAKES KEY REGIONAL APPOINTMENTS
Internal promotions for Kapil Aggarwal & Choon Wah Wong to head-up operations, investment & asset management for Middle East, Europe, India, Indian Ocean & the Americas
The Shangri-La Group has made two key regional appointments covering the Middle East, India, Indian Ocean, Europe and the Americas (MEIA).
Kapil Aggarwal and Choon Wah Wong, have both been promoted to Co-Heads of the MEIA region, Aggarwal will overlook operations in Turkey, the Middle East, India and the Indian Ocean, while Wong will take responsibility for Europe and the Americas.
Prior to their latest appointments, Wong was Vice President of Investment & Asset Management and Aggarwal was Vice President of Investment & Asset Management as well as Deputy to the Executive Vice President of Operations for the MEIA region.
Aggarwal, who has been working with Shangri-La for eight years now, originally joined in 2013 as director of asset management.
Commenting on his new position, Aggarwal who holds a law degree and an MBA in finance said: “I am looking forward to working with Choon Wah, my other colleagues in the region and our business partners, not only to optimise the operational and financial performance of our current properties, but to strategically grow our portfolio throughout the region. We are keen to develop new markets such as Saudi Arabia, which we will enter later on in the year with the opening of the stunning Shangri-La Jeddah.”
Choon Wah Wong, joined Shangri-La in 2018, having spent the majority of the previous 18 years in the private equity real estate investment sector. Wong who has an engineering degree from the Univerity of Cambridge, has held senior roles with APG Asset Management, Partners Group and Standard Life Investments (Singapore), before eventually relocating to Shangri-La’s regional office in London.
“This is a pivotal moment not just for for Shangri-La, but the rest of the hotel industry as well. Many governments especially in the developed world are gradually begining to relax social as well as domestic and international travel restrictions.
“This has given us the opportunity to reopen a number of flagship properties, such as the Shangri-La The Shard, London which reopened on 17th May, the Shangri-La Vancouver which reopened on 22 May and most recently the Shangri-La Paris which reopened on the 1st June.
“These are such positive signs, especially after enduring the initial lockdown and then the disappointment of numerous false dawns over the past 14-15 months. It is heart-warming to see some of our hotels in key cities getting back to normal, welcoming guests once again!” said Wong.

ترقية كابيل أغاروال وتشون واه وونج لرئاسة إدارة العمليات والاستثمار وإدارة الأصول في الشرق الأوسط وأوروبا والهند والمحيط الهندي والأمريكيتين
أعلنت مجموعة شانغريلا عن تعيينات إقليمية جديدة للشرق الأوسط وأوروبا والهند والمحيط الهندي والأمريكيتين، حيث تم ترقية كلاً من كابيل أغاروال وتشون واه وونج لمنصب “الرئيس الإقليمي المشترك”. وسيشرف أغاروال على العمليات في تركيا والشرق الأوسط والهند والمحيط الهندي، بينما سيتولى وونج المسؤولية في أوروبا والأمريكتين.
قبل توليهم هذه المناصب الجديدة، شغل وونغ منصب نائب رئيس إدارة الاستثمار والأصول، وشغل أغاروال منصب نائب رئيس إدارة الاستثمار والأصول ونائب الرئيس التنفيذي الإقليمي للعمليات.
انضم أغاروال لمجموعة شانغريلا منذ ثماني سنوات كمدير إدارة الأصول عام 2013. وفي تعليقه على هذا المنصب الجديد، قال أغاروال الحاصل على شهادة في القانون وماجستير في إدارة الأعمال المالية: ” إنني أتطلع إلى العمل مع تشون واه وزملائي الآخرين في المنطقة والتعاون مع جميع شركائنا في العمل، ليس فقط لتحسين الأداء التشغيلي والمالي لفنادقنا الحالية، ولكن لتنمية محفظتنا بشكل استراتيجي حول المنطقة. نحن حريصون على تطوير أسواق جديدة مثل المملكة العربية السعودية، والذي سيأتي في نهاية هذا العام مع الإفتتاح الرائع لفندق شانغريلا جدة“.
انضم تشون واه وونج الى شانغريلا عام 2018، بعد أن أمضى غالبية السنوات الـثمانية عشر الماضية في قطاع الاستثمار العقاري في الأسهم الخاصة. وونغ، الحاصل على شهادة في الهندسة من جامعة كامبريدج، شغل مناصب عليا في شركة إيه بي جي لإدارة الأصول ومجموعة بارتنرز وستاندرد لايف للإستثمارات في سنغافورة، ثم انتقل في النهاية إلى مكتب شانغريلا الإقليمي في لندن.
“لقد بدأت العديد من الحكومات، خاصة في الدول المتقدمة، بتخفيف الإجراءات الإحترازية على الحياة الاجتماعية وكذلك القيود على السفر المحلي والدولي تدريجياً، وهذه تعتبر مرحلة محورية لمجال الفندقة بأكمله وليس فقط لشانغريلا.
وأعطتنا هذه الفترة فرصة لإعادة إفتتاح عدد من فنادقنا الرئيسية، مثل شانغريلا ذا شارد، لندن الذي أعيد افتتاحه في 17 مايو، شانغريلا فانكوفر الذي أعيد افتتاحه في 22 مايو وآخرها شانغريلا باريس الذي أعيد افتتاحه في الأول من يونيو.
هذه علامات إيجابية بالتأكيد، خاصة بعد خوض تجربة الإغلاق الشامل في البداية الذي تابعته الآمال الزائفة على مدار فترة امتدت من أربعة عشر الى خمسة عشر شهرًا. وأخيراً ها نحن الآن، نرى فنادقنا في بعض المدن الرئيسية تعود إلى طبيعتها لتفتح أبوابها من جديد لنرحب بضيوفنا مرة أخرى”، قال وونغ.
