Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola surprises football fans with visit to Expo 2020 Dubai
DUBAI, 16 November 2021 – Football enthusiasts were thrilled to see Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on Monday, when he visited the Expo 2020 Dubai site, touring some of the pavilions and surprising young fans.
Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister for International Cooperation and Director General of Expo 2020 Dubai welcomed Guardiola, considered one of the greatest football managers of all time, along with club CEO Ferran Soriano, and other executives from City Football Group.
The first stop at Expo for the group was the UAE Pavilion, learning more about the traditions and culture of the host nation, before swiftly moving to the UK Pavilion. With Manchester City the current champions of the English Premier League, Guardiola and Soriano took part in a Q&A session with invited guests.
At the conclusion of the session, Guardiola and Soriano headed over to see the City Football Schools training sessions at Expo’s Sports Fitness and Wellbeing Hub, and meet with some of the young players.
It was a chance for Guardiola, who has picked up eight major trophies in just over five years at Manchester City, to reveal his thoughts on Expo.
“It’s incredible and has been a wonderful experience to witness the energy of grassroots football here at Expo 2020 Dubai and to see how the club connects with people around the world. The enthusiasm for the game demonstrated by the next generation of aspiring players is marvellous,” Guardiola said.
“I was really happy to see the kids playing, and hopefully some of them will have the opportunity to train in Manchester in the future.”
Soriano said: “Manchester City is very proud to be working closely with Expo Dubai 2020, helping to deliver this exceptional event to the world. We were so impressed by the pavilions we visited and also happy to see the excitement of the kids playing football at the sport and training facilities. I encourage everybody that can travel to the UAE to visit the Expo. It is a one in a lifetime opportunity.”
Expo 2020 is an Official Exhibition Partner of Manchester City. Both the club and the event have worked closely together, with Manchester City players wearing Expo 2020 Dubai branding on their training kit for the 2021/22 season. Fans can even purchase the Special Edition Expo 2020 Dubai x MCFC Esports team jersey, available for a limited time at Expo’s Official Store in the Mobility Pavilion.

دبي، 16 نوفمبر 2021 – فاجأ مدرّب كرة القدم الأشهر في العالم، بيب غوارديولا، الذي يقود تدريب فريق مانشستر سيتي لكرة القدم حالياً، محبيه خلال تواجده في إكسبو 2020 دبي ضمن جولة على بعض الأجنحة، يوم أمس الاثنين، وزيارته لأرجاء الحدث الدولي.
وقد رحبت معالي ريم الهاشمي، وزيرة الدولة لشؤون التعاون الدولي، المدير العام لإكسبو 2020 دبي بغوارديولا، بصفته واحدا من اشهر مدرّبي كرة القدم في التاريخ، وبالرئيس التنفيذي لنادي مانشستر سيتي، فيران سوريانو، ووفد من الرؤساء التنفيذيين في مجموعة سيتي لكرة القدم.
وكان جناح دولة الإمارات المحطة الأولى في زيارة وفد مجموعة سيتي لكرة القدم في إكسبو 2020، من أجل التعرّف إلى تقاليد الدولة المضيفة وثقافتها بشكل أفضل، قبل الانتقال بسرعة إلى جناح المملكة المتحدة. وشارك كل من غوارديولا وسوريانو في جلسة أسئلة وأجوبة مع ضيوف مدعوّين، إذ يشكل فريق مانشستر سيتي البطل الحالي للدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز.
وفي ختام الجلسة، توجه غوارديولا وسوريانو إلى مركز الرياضة واللياقة البدنية في إكسبو 2020 لمشاهدة الجلسات التدريبية لمدارس السيتي لكرة القدم، ومقابلة بعض اللاعبين الصغار.
وحظِي غوارديولا، الذي حاز ثمانية كؤوس بارزة في غضون ما يزيد قليلا على خمس سنوات في مانشستر سيتي، بفرصة الكشف عن رأيه بإكسبو 2020.
وقال غوارديولا: “لقد كانت تجربة رائعة أن نشاهد طاقة لعبة كرة القدم ذات القاعدة الشعبية العريضة هنا في إكسبو 2020 دبي، وأن نتعرف إلى الطريقة التي يتواصل بها النادي مع الناس في جميع أنحاء العالم. فالحماس الذي أظهره الجيل القادم من اللاعبين الطموعين تجاه اللعبة أمر رائع”.
وأضاف: “كنت سعيدا حقا بمشاهدة الأطفال وهم يلعبون، وأرجو أن يحصل بعضهم على فرصة لتدريبهم بمانشستر في المستقبل”.
وقال سوريانو: “يفخر نادي مانشستر سيتي للغاية بالعمل عن كثب مع إكسبو 2020 دبي، والمساعدة في تقديم هذا الحدث الدولي الاستثنائي إلى العالم. أُعجبنا كثيراً بالأجنحة التي زرناها، وسعدنا كثيرا بمشاهدة حماس الأطفال وهم يلعبون كرة القدم في المرافق الرياضية ومرافق التدريب. أشجع كل شخص قادر على السفر إلى دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة على زيارة إكسبو 2020. فهي فرصة لمرة واحدة في العمر”.
ويعتبر إكسبو 2020 شريك المعارض الرسمي لمانشستر سيتي. وقد عمل كل من النادي والحدث الدولي عن كثب معا، مع ارتداء لاعبي مانشستر سيتي قمصان تدريب تحمل العلامة التجارية لإكسبو 2020 أثناء موسم 2021/ 2022. ويمكن للمشجعين شراء النسخة الخاصة من قميص إكسبو 2020 دبي وفريق الرياضة الإلكترونية لنادي مانشستر سيتي لكرة القدم، حيث ستكون متاحة لفترة محدودة في متاجر إكسبو 2020 الرسمية في جناح التنقل.{:}
