DUBAI, 21 November 2021 – The best in Portugese furniture, design and decorative objects will come under the spotlight at the Portugal Pavilion over the next month, following the launch of the ‘Home and Design’ theme month at Expo 2020 Dubai.

Two Portuguese designers – Alda Tomás, designer at Vista Alegre, and Artur Soares, interior designer and founder of Designer’s Mint Studio – have been in the spotlight so far.

Joaquim Moreira de Lemos, Portugal’s Ambassador to the UAE, said: “It is important to show in this part of the world what we do, our know-how, and how we can distinguish ourselves. Indeed, know-how and quality are characteristics of the national products that the wood and furniture sector represent well.”

Francisca Guedes de Oliveira, the Deputy Commissioner of Portugal for Expo 2020 Dubai, said: “World events, such as Expo 2020 Dubai, are an excellent opportunity to promote Portuguese products that present themselves with tradition and authenticity. The home sector is a good example of the sophistication and exclusivity of the national offer.”

The programme features a daily live showcase of ancestral arts, with Portuguese artisans working on pieces in the pavilion’s amphitheatre.

The first themed week highlights ‘Hand-painted Ceramics and Wood Marquetry’ (15-21 November); week two is themed ‘Weaving Loom and Traditional Tapestry’ (22-28 November), and week three will present ‘Carpentry, Bobbin Lacemaking and Embroidered Sweaters from Póvoa de Varzim’ (29 November-5 December).

A series of talks on key themes include ‘Sustainability and Design’ (23 November), and ‘The Importance of Portuguese Culture and Know-How: Design and Traditional Techniques’ (30 November)

دبي، 17 نوفمبر 2021: يطلق الجناح البرتغالي في إكسبو 2020 دبي، في 19 نوفمبر القادم، وعلى مدى شهر كامل، فعالية “المنزل والتصميم”، بهدف عرض التقاليد والحرف اليدوية البرتغالية، من خلال إقامة المعارض والمؤتمرات المختصة لعرض الأدوات والمنسوجات المنزلية البرتغالية، والقطع الزخرفية، و الأثاث وقطع الديكور.

وعلى مدار الشهر سيتم تخصيص الأسابيع لموضوعات متنوعة، مثل فنون الأجداد، الذي سيطّلع الزوار خلاله على الأعمال الخشبية، وصناعة الدانتيل، والرسم اليدوي على السيراميك، والمنسوجات التقليدية، كما سيتمكن الزوار من مشاهدة الحرفيين وهم يمارسون مهاراتهم الحرفية بشكل حي ومباشر في الجناح.

كما سيتمكن الزوار أيضا من حضور المعارض الحية للحرف اليدوية، التي سيتم عرضها في مدرج الجناح البرتغالي، كل يوم ابتداء من الساعة العاشرة صباحا وحتى التاسعة مساء، ويمكن للزوار زيارة المعارض الخاصة بالأثاث المنزلي البرتغالي في الطابق الأرضي من الجناح، كما يمكنهم حضور المؤتمرات التي ستستقطب شركات ومعارض الأثاث البرتغالية، التي ستخصص بعض الجلسات للحديث عن أهمية التقنيات التقليدية في الصناعة، وأهمية استخدام المواد المستدامة في التصميم، وكذلك أهمية إبراز الثقافة البرتغالية في تصميم الأدوات المنزلية.{:}
