DUBAI, 4 December 2021 – For once, the UAE men’s national basketball team did not have to worry about possession as they taught young aspiring players how to improve their skills at the Sport, Fitness and Wellbeing Hub at Expo 2020 Dubai on Saturday.

The fun evening was packed with basketball-themed events, such as a ‘Come and Play’ session with the UAE national team players, a ‘Mid-Court Shot Challenge’ contest for adults, and a ‘Free Throw Contest’ for kids, with great prizes up for grabs and several joint matches between professional and amateur players of all ages.

Dr Mounir bin Al Habib, coach of the national team and technical director of the UAE Basketball Association, said: “We are here to promote Expo 2020 through basketball, and also to entertain visitors and popularise the game. And we have come to celebrate the UAE’s 50th National Day, which makes it a double celebration. We are very excited to be here.”

Captain Mohamed Abdel Latif said: “We were feeling a little tired from our tours, but when we arrived at the Sport, Fitness and Wellbeing Hub at Expo 2020 Dubai, we felt great, as our energy was renewed by the beautiful atmosphere, and the kids who love the game. We played basketball games just for fun, especially with the kids, where we tried to teach them skills and helped them improve. Everyone had great fun.”

{:}{:ar}دبي، 12 ديسمبر 2021 – شارك لاعبون من المنتخب الوطني الإماراتي لكرة السلة زوار إكسبو 2020 دبي، بألعاب رياضية منوعة وذلك خلال تواجد المنتخب اليوم داخل مركز اللياقة البدنية في موقع الحدث الدولي ضمن فعالية تفاعلية مع جمهور اللعبة.

وعلى مدى ساعة ونصف، جرت مباريات عدة مشتركة بين اللاعبين المحترفين وهواة كرة السلة الزوار من مختلف الأعمار، وشارك من المنتخب عشرة لاعبين قدموا خبراتهم المتنوعة، حيث نظمت مسابقات “تحدي الرمية الوسطى” للكبار، و”الرمي المجاني” للأطفال ووزعت جوائز للرابحين.

وقال د. منير بن الحبيب، المدير الفني لاتحاد السلة الإماراتي ومدرب المنتخب: “لدى اتحاد كرة السلة في الإمارات وإكسبو 2020 دبي شراكة مهمة للترويج للحدث من خلال كرة السلة، وأيضا للترفيه عن الزوار، والترويج لكرة السلة بصورة عامة، ويصادف الاحتفال بالعيد الوطني الخمسين، وبالتالي نحن نحتفل بهذه المناسبة من جهة، وبتعاوننا مع إكسبو من جهة ثانية. نحن فرحون بوجودنا هنا”.

وأكد لاعب وكابتن الفريق محمد عبداللطيف: “كنا نشعر بالقليل من التعب جراء تجولنا في الموقع، لكن حين وصلنا الى مركز اللياقة في إكسبو 2020 دبي شعرنا بطاقة كبيرة أعطانا إياها الأطفال والأجواء الجميلة في المكان. لعبنا ألعابا حرة هدفها المتعة فقط، حيث حاولنا معرفة مهاراتهم ومساعدتهم على تحسينها. الجميع مستمتع هنا”.{:}
