DUBAI, 6 November 2021 – Italy, Palau and other nations blessed with stunning mountainous nature will gather in celebration of International Mountain Day at Expo 2020 Dubai on Saturday, 11 December – to highlight worldwide efforts to build resilience of mountain peoples, while protecting mountain ecosystems and biodiversities.
Celebrated yearly on 11 December, International Mountain Day is a chance to raise awareness about the importance of mountains, highlights opportunities and challenges in mountain development and build alliances that will bring positive change to mountain peoples and environments globally.
From 1500 GST at the Best Practice Area, located next to the Opportunity Pavilion at Expo 2020, representatives from Italy, Palau, Japan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Mountain Partnership – the only UN alliance of 430-plus members dedicated to mountains and their peoples – will gather for a series of talks.
Sara Manuelli, Advocacy and Outreach Officer of the Mountain Partnership, which is hosted by the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), will also offer opening remarks – alongside an open Q&A to wrap up proceedings.
A representative of the Italian Government will kick off the first of four presentations, outlining the country’s commitment to supporting mountains and Italian excellence throughout the world. The Japan Government will also speak on its cooperation with mountain communities to build resilience, followed by Kyrgyz Republic, an almost entirely mountainous country, and Palau that is looking to protect fragile mountain and island ecosystems through sustainable tourism.
The theme of International Mountain Day in 2021 will be ‘Sustainable Mountain Tourism’. Sustainable tourism in mountains can contribute to creating additional and alternative livelihood options and promoting poverty alleviation, social inclusion, as well as landscape and biodiversity conservation.
According to the UN, mountain tourism attracts around 15 to 20 per cent of global tourism. Tourism, however, is one of the sectors most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, affecting economies, livelihoods, public services and opportunities on all continents.
{:}{:ar}دبي، 5 نوفمبر 2021 – تجتمع إيطاليا، وبالاو، ودول أخرى تتمتع بطبيعة جبلية خلابة للاحتفال باليوم الدولي للجبال في إكسبو 2020 دبي، يوم السبت الموافق 11 ديسمبر الجاري، لتسليط الضوء على الجهود العالمية المبذولة من أجل تشكيل مرونة سكان الجبال، مع حماية النُظم البيئية والتنوع الحيوي لهذه الأماكن الشاهقة.
ويُحتفل باليوم الدولي للجبال سنويا في 11 ديسمبر، وهو فرصة لرفع الوعي بشأن أهمية الجبال، وتسليط الضوء على الفرص والتحديات في تنمية الجبال، وبناء تحالفات من شأنها إحداث تغيير إيجابي في سكان الجبال والبيئات الجبلية عالميا.
ويجتمع منذ الساعة 15:00 بتوقيت دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة في منطقة أفضل الممارسات الواقعة بجوار جناح الفرص في إكسبو 2020، مندوبون عن إيطاليا، وبالاو، واليابان، وجمهورية قيرغيزستان، وتحالف “شراكة الجبال”، التحالف الوحيد التابع للأمم المتحدة الذي يضم أكثر من 430 عضوا والمٌخصّص للجبال وسكانها، لخوض سلسلة من المحادثات.
وتقدم سارة مانويلي، مسؤولة الدعوة والتوعية في “شراكة الجبال”، التي تستضيفها منظمة الأغذية والزراعة للأمم المتحدة (الفاو)، ملاحظات افتتاحية، إلى جانب سؤال وجواب مفتوح لاختتام الفعالية.
ويبدأ ممثل عن الحكومة الإيطالية أول عرض من بين أربعة عروض، يوضح التزام بلاده بدعم الجبال والترويج للتميز الإيطالي في جميع أنحاء العالم. وستتحدث حكومة اليابان أيضا عن تعاونها مع المجتمعات الجبلية لتعزيز مرونتها، تليها جمهورية قرغيزستان، وهي بلد جبلي بالكامل تقريبا، وبالاو التي تتطلع إلى حماية الأنظمة البيئية الهشة للجبال والجزر عبر السياحة المستدامة.
وسيكون شعار اليوم الدولي للجبال في عام 2021 هو “السياحة الجبلية المستدامة”. ويمكن للسياحة المستدامة في الجبال أن تسهم في إيجاد خيارات إضافية وبديلة لكسب الرزق، والعمل على التخفيف من حدة الفقر، والاندماج الاجتماعي، فضلا عن الحفاظ على المناظر الطبيعية والتنوع الحيوي.
ووفقا للأمم المتحدة، تجتذب السياحة الجبلية ما بين 15 و20 في المائة من السياحة العالمية، بيد أن السياحة هي أحد القطاعات الأكثر تضررا من جائحة كوفيد-19، التي أثرت على الاقتصادات، وسبل العيش، والخدمات العامة، والفرص في جميع القارات.{:}
