DUBAI, 16 November 2021 – As part of Knowledge and Learning Week at Expo 2020 Dubai, the Canada Pavilion has unveiled a new outdoor exhibition, ‘Women in STEM’, to celebrate the accomplishments of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
In partnership with Ingenium – Canada’s Museums of Science and Innovation – the graphic arts portraits honour the leadership of innovators, researchers and scientists throughout history, and their greatest contributions to date in resolving pressing challenges in areas such as cancer research, Arctic issues, climate change and accessibility rights. The exhibit celebrates equity, diversity and inclusivity within the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.
Among the inspired women featured in the exhibit are genetic genius Dr Lihadh Al-Gazali, professor of clinical genetics at United Arab Emirates University, and Dr Hind Al Abadleh, Fulbright Canada’s Research Chair in Climate Change, who also grew up and graduated in the UAE. Others featured include Canada’s first female astronaut, the first woman in the world to receive a master’s degree in aeronautical engineering, and a Canadian entrepreneur raising awareness for disability issues and more.
Marie-Geneviève Mounier, Commissioner General – Expo 2020 Dubai, said: “Women from Canada and around the world have made such important contributions in STEM fields throughout history, and with this exhibit we are celebrating the strength and intellectual power of a number of these trailblazing women. By showcasing the notion that if I can see her, I can be her, this exhibit helps us break down implicit gender biases that lead us to think that only men are successful in STEM.”
There are 60 posters available on Ingenium’s ‘Women in STEM’ website. The Canada Pavilion’s exhibition at Expo 2020 Dubai showcases a selection of 13 posters in total.
The exhibit forms part of Canada’s educational showcase during Expo’s Knowledge and Learning Week, and will be displayed in the Canada Pavilion forecourt until mid-January.

دبي، 16 نوفمبر 2021 – في إطار أسبوع المعرفة والتعلم في إكسبو 2020 دبي، كشف جناح كندا عن معرض جديد ينظمه في الهواء الطلق تحت عنوان “المرأة في العلوم والتقنية والهندسة والرياضيات” للاحتفال بالإنجازات النسائية في هذه الميادين.
وبالتعاون مع متاحف كندا للعلوم والابتكار “إنجينيوم”، تُشيد لوحات الفنون التصويرية بالمهارات القيادية للمرأة في مجالات الابتكار والأبحاث والعلوم عبر التاريخ، مع إبراز أعظم إنجازاتها ومساهماتها حتى الآن في تجاوز التحديات المُلحّة، مثل أبحاث السرطان، وقضايا القطب الشمالي، والتغير المناخي، وحقوق الوصول لذوي الهمم. ويتناول المعرض أيضا جوانب المساواة والتنوع والشمولية في مجالات العلوم والتقنية والهندسة والرياضيات.
وقالت ماري-جينيفيف مونيه، المفوض العام لجناح كندا في إكسبو 2020 دبي: “لقد قدمت النساء من كندا ومن شتى أنحاء العالم إسهامات مهمة للغاية في مجالات العلوم والتقنية والهندسية والرياضيات عبر التاريخ. ومن خلال هذا المعرض، نحتفل بالقوة والقدرات الفكرية للمرأة التي أطلقت العنان لأحلامها، وعملت بكل جد لتحقيقها. بعرض فكرة أنه ’إذا أمكنني رؤيتها، يمكنني أن أكون هي‘، نستطيع تفكيك التحيزات الضمنية القائمة على التمييز بين الجنسين، والتي تجعلنا نعتقد أن الرجال فقط هم من ينجحون في العلوم والتقنية والهندسة والرياضيات”
هناك 60 لوحة تصويرية على موقع “إنجينيوم” الإلكتروني لمعرض “المرأة في العلوم والتقنية والهندسة والرياضيات”، ويستعرض جناح كندا في إكسبو 2020 دبي مجموعة مختارة تتألف من 13 لوحة تصويرية.
يندرج المعرض ضمن برنامج كندا التعليمي خلال أسبوع المعرفة والتعلم في إكسبو، ويقام في الفناء الأمامي لجناح كندا حتى منتصف يناير.{:}
