Mallorca continues to reinforce its reputation as a premier audiovisual destination with the filming of a new feature set in one of its most iconic regions. The Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, serves as the stunning backdrop for “Sacar Pecho,” a full-length documentary produced on the island that integrates the mountain landscape into its narrative. More than just showcasing locations, the film transforms the region into a cinematic experience centred on health, well-being, and personal empowerment.
The Tramuntana region, renowned for its historic paths, dry-stone constructions, mountain villages, and Mediterranean vistas, stands out as an exceptional location for productions seeking authenticity and a unique visual identity. In Sacar Pecho, this landscape functions not only as the film’s setting but also as a metaphor for a physical and emotional journey across Mallorca, from Pollença to Andratx, following a walking route that shapes the narrative of the entire film.
The documentary profiles eight women – Ana, MariPau, Joana, Bel, Mar, Eva, Sheriline, and Leire – each diagnosed with breast cancer. Through their stories, viewers witness their journeys, from the initial impact of diagnosis to moments of learning and personal growth. The group establishes a supportive environment, driven by mutual support, which the project describes as “collective medicine.”
Sacar Pecho aims to empower women affected by breast cancer by offering inspiring role models and raising awareness of the physical and emotional challenges they face. The film combines personal stories with expert insights, delivering a practical, thorough, and accessible message to the public.
The project was launched by journalists Mar Comin, Mar Puigserver, and Virginia Galiano, and directed by industry professionals Ruben Capilla and Alex Rodriguez, who are deeply connected to Mallorca’s audiovisual sector. The conceptual framework and medical oversight were provided by experts Antonia Perello, an oncologist; Valerio Corazza, a surgeon; and Monica Marti, a psycho-oncologist. All three lead breast units at public and private hospitals across the Balearic Islands, ensuring both medical precision and emotional authenticity in the film.
The feature also includes the participation of the SOLTI Foundation, a benchmark in clinical cancer research in Spain, further reinforcing the project’s commitment to scientific outreach and social impact.
Designed as a positive therapeutic tool, Sacar Pecho helps solidify Mallorca’s reputation as a premier destination for culturally ambitious and internationally recognised film productions. The documentary has been officially submitted for consideration at the Goya Awards, in the categories of Best Documentary Film and Best Original Song, as well as for the Forque Awards.
