Izu Ani
Chef and Concept Creator
A philosopher of taste that blends quality, respect, passion and raw talent to create captivating concepts.
Growing up in London, Izu’s passion for the kitchen began during his home economics classes at school. After his studies, he gained experience in Michelin starred restaurants and travelled across France and Spain to experience Nouvelle cuisine first-hand, which influenced his culinary style and encouraged his flair for Mediterranean flavours.
Izu lives by the ethos that life is not about ownership, everything is loaned and borrowed and when you learn that nothing belongs to you, you can consider that you have learned only a small portion of what there is to learn in life.
Since relocating to Dubai in 2010, Izu has enhanced the culinary offering of the region with exquisite flavours and unrivalled attention to detail across his portfolio of home-grown and franchised restaurant concepts, including Gaia, La Maison Ani, La Petite Ani, Carine, Izu Burger, Shanghai Me, Scalini, Alaya, Piatti by the Beach, Izu Doha, as well as the entire F&B operations of the Hyatt Centric Hotel Jumeirah, including Eunoia by Carine and chic Japanese rooftop restaurant, Kai Enzo.
2023 saw Chef Izu lead the international expansion of his home-grown concepts, taking them from Dubai to the world whilst ensuring the ethos and quality of each brand integrates seamlessly into their communities. GAIA and NYX are now open in London and Marbella, with beautiful locations in Miami and Riyadh in the pipeline. NYX is set to open its first standalone venue in Monaco in summer 2024, followed by the launch of La Maison Ani and Shanghai Me in London and Monaco.
In Dubai, Chef Izu aims to open six new home-grown luxury dining and leisure concepts in partnership with Fundamental Hospitality, with additional creative projects planned for 2025 and beyond.
